That's why we'll never measure up with truly great franchises like the Rangers. They get two elite superstar generational players with those picks and we pass on them to pick Justin Peters and Brett Carson.

LOL as sarcastic as this post is it would've been nice to have grabbed Doobie and Callie (great nicknames, I know) instead of Carson and Peters. Backup goaltenders are a dime a dozen, and Carson STILL hasn't cracked the roster full-time. At least in Callahan you get some hits and with Dubinsky you get a 2nd-3rd line center...
Who am I kidding? What am I saying??? Of COURSE we should have grabbed them. I mean, we had the chance of drafting the most skilled center in the league AND the toughest, grittiest, lead-by-example player in the league, and instead we drafted Justin Poopers and Brett Fartson...
What would the world be like if Washington took Geno 1st overall?
Then Pittsburgh would've drafted Alex Ovechkin, subsequently, the NHL wouldn't have given them Sidney Crosby. Instead they would have felt bad about the fact that they wouldn''t be able to give Carolina the All Star Game that coming Feb, and would've instead stacked the deck in favor of our beloved Hurricanes.
And then the Hurricanes would've drafted Jack Johnson with the #1 overall pick.
Strange one tonight, with the crowd being very split - some cheering for both teams too.
Honestly, the Checkers surprised me how much worse they are than last year - Samson was the only one who ever looked like doing any damage... Disappointing.
On the bright side, Boychuk seems to be doing exactly what he should be doing, which is continuing to work/play hard and not sulk about being in the AHL. Also Murphy isn't playing too terribly 2.21 GAA and .918 SV% is good for how bad the rest of the team is.
What do you guys think of this Zack Fitgerald guy? In 8 games he has 54 PIM. He only has 2 fighting majors and a ten minute misconduct. That means the other PIMs are all 2-minute minors for a total of 17 of them. Do you guys think that has anything to do with the 2W and 6L?
EDIT: Well good news is you are ranked 7th in the AHL on the penalty kill.

Probably. I haven't ever been a fan of his to be honest, although his role is to be an enforcer. I REALLY wanted to see the Canes sign Justin Krueger and give him a shot in Charlotte this season. He was one of the best defensemen in the ECAC last year and a big reason Cornell was as good as they were. Instead they allow his rights to expire.
I think it's the defense more then anything. They're gave up a ton of shots last night and it's not like Justin Pogge is Cam Ward in terms of being able to bail them out.
