The Unofficial Opposing Team FAQ

Dear <fan of Thrashers opponent>,

We, the Thrashers fans at hfboards, would like to provide you with this FAQ about the Thrashers. This will hopefully save you time posting either on our board or yours about the Thrashers team, the broadcasts, the arena, the announcers, and the fans.
  • the Thrashers suck this season, and have sucked many seasons. We know this. Thanks.
  • Many people don't think there should be hockey anywhere in the Southern part of the US. Because we suck, you might think our team should be taken away. We know this. Thanks.
  • The announcer in our arena sometimes announces things like "Icing", "Offside", "Power Play", "Full Strength". You, being raised in a hockey market where people aren't still learning the game, probably think this is funny. We know this. Thanks.
  • You think Atlanta is classless (a classic HF term) because of <insert some reason here>. You probably say this about most of the teams you play, because you are a fan of your team. That's OK, we do it too. We know this. Thanks.
  • Our TV announcers are sometimes biased towards the Thrashers, like 99% of TV announcers. We know this. Thanks.
  • We don't get a lot of posts on the Thrashers area at hfboards. We know this. Thanks.
  • "OMG!!!11!!one!!! Philips Arena is completely empty!" You are making judgments based on what you're seeing on TV right at the beginning of the game, and you think this means our team should be taken away. We know this. Thanks.
  • Yes, Don Waddell is a terrible GM. We say this enough. We know this. Thanks
  • We know you think Ilya Kovalchuk DESERVES to be on a better team in a better market. We know you think this. Thanks.
  • Yes, the Thrashers have fans. Even though the Thrashers suck. Thanks.
  • The team is the THRASHERS but you like to call it the Trashers. This makes you feel clever. We know this, thanks.
  • You might think Dany Heatley is a deity, but if you talk about him on the Thrashers boards you'll get some of our opinions which might strongly disagree with you. You'll be morally indignant that we can't just let bygones be bygones and let the poor kid get on with his life, but you won't take any time to understand our point of view. We know this, thanks.
  • Yes, the Thrasher have only made the playoffs once and were swept. We know this, thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to read this message. Please refrain from wasting your time and ours posting questions about these issues on our board.

Anybody have anything to add? I'll be glad to keep this up to date. This is no longer all my post.

Let's be sure to link this in near the top of our GDT to save opposing team's fans the trouble of looking for it.

Yes, Don Waddell is a terrible GM. We say this enough, so we don't need <Opposing team>'s fans telling us this as well.

True... Darren tries to be pretty impartial, because he probably still wants a national position. But I've heard it, so it's in the FAQ

Sad? No way, we're having fun

I'm really impressed with this thread, Kudos man. Kind of sad you had reason to make this thread, I am convinced the reason that there aren't that many fans at the game is because of the success. Chicago had terrible attendance up until this year and Washington struggled to have 10k a night during Ovechkin's first year. Living in Tampa I'm really grateful to have a hockey team, it takes more than a few years to develop a fanbase for the team, especially when the sport is being introduced to the natives of the area. I really hope your team is able to turn it around, I think they are more promising this year than they were last year by a lot.

As much as he tries not to, Darren totally wears his biases on his sleeve.

Really? You make 3 years sound like a very long time. And only 1 of those years we really "sucked".

That's not true.

The Leafs kicked ass in the early 2000's. Sundin, Mogilny, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, Belfour...Wow. I loved watching that team.

They also kicked ass in the early 1990's.

Good job man, many of those same things should be on our thread- " whats hockey doing in the south" " whats your GM thinking letting Laviolette go" etc. But for some of us this sport is actually our passion, and it doesnt matter if our team is currently sucking. Good luck tomorrow night guys...

I really hope you guys get good. Always liked your team. Bogosian and Hedman would be a hell of a 1-2.

How about another addition to the FAQ on the proper spelling of the team's mascot containing an "H"? Thanks.

From an outside perspective... I can't help but think there should be some reference to the playoff sweep in here. I've no idea how to phrase it, though.

Otherwise, bravo.

Maybe "Yes, the Thrasher have only made the playoffs once and were swept. We know this, thanks."

But it could also fall under the "have sucked many seasons" clause. What would Thomas Jefferson do? "Bear arms"?

How about if you bring up Dany Heatley's name on this board, you do so at your own risk.
