Deos anyone really believe he will be out for only a month? I love the Shooter quote he was thrown a curveball, how more clueless can you be.

Injuries are part of the game....Holmgren knows this that's why he stacked the D and came out and said that he didn't expect Pronger or Timonen to be 100% and play as much as they did last year so he prioritized the D and not the goaltending despite having 4 unproven goalies as starters. This is why he deserves criticism b/c his priorities continue to baffle...

Moreover, it didn't have to be an either or proposition...that is to say "I'm going to stack the D and spend to the hilt and go on the cheap in goal and HOPE that another curveball is not thrown on that front." He could have balanced the two much better through proper cap and asset management. Again fair criticism not irrational "ranting." He gambled and now he and the team have to be reactive again. I think Paul needs a refresher in RISK MANAGEMENT 101. But I realize the predicament we're in is the result of Holmgren "haters." Frankly, this whole goalie soap opera has run its course well beyond it's life expectancy...goaltending cannot constantly be an afterthough especially when you don't have a single proven starter going into the season.

HOPE is not a strategy but that's how the Flyers for years have dealt with goaltending. Now that we have a couple of prospects that look like they may pan out...we may stunt the development of one of those promising goalies all because the GM took an ill-advised gamble once again! As far as Backlund...even Holmgren said he can't be factored in just yet so it's Boosh and Bob still leading the charge in net.

Anyway...one of these days this soap opera will end and I'll welcome another one in another position(s) with open arms. 25 years of this is just way too much to take on my end...

Bulging disc is bad, real bad. Back injuries are a huge problem. I expect him to be out much longer than a month.

My first thought as well. Playing goalie puts so much stress on the back. Not gonna be easy to recover from and avoid aggravating an injury like this.

Also keep in mind Boucher hurt both his knees pretty bad as well in the playoffs. He maybe healthy now but.........

We can always get Caron back i suppose.

Do I still win the thread if we don't see him until Thanksgiving?

It's not such a big deal that Leighton is hurt, any other team would be able to cope. Because on any other team he would be the backup goaltender.

Nitty was actually developed, he was never rushed. Bobrovsky may have to be in the NHL because we have no one else. Could be a good thing or could a huge gamble. Depends on his mental state and his ability to forget bad soft goals, bad games and occasional mistakes in front of him. Not an easy task for a young kid. If he is going to sit behind Boucher what is he going to learn? He needs to play as much as possible and get used to North American style. Best case scenario.

Fair enough. He deserves some games in the NHL. Should he be our starter? Should Boucher?

Maybe, but there's a world outside of HFboards that follow the Flyers believe it or not, including the media.

Is his disc bulging or is it desperately trying to escape his body?

No.

You called it on September 26. Thanksgiving is November 25. If you don't see him until Black Friday, then you win.

Well if the bulge is big enough it might enable him to cover the upper portion of the post much better...in quasimodo like fashion....

Ok, well that's the next day.

Practice doesn't count, I'm talking an NHL game.

I'll make an avatar bet on that if you're up for a friendly wager.

If I lose, I take on a Zoey related avatar. If you lose, you take on a Rutgers football or Baltimore Ravens related avatar?

Well I wasn't trying to make a bet, just a cynical observation.

Yeah I know, I figured I'd up the ante if you're interested. Like I said, friendly bet. I couldn't think of anything to bet other than avatars. I'll bet v-cash if you want to set up a sports bet...

The deadline would be the game against the Flames on Black Friday. That game would go in your favor. So if he played in any game prior to that game, I would win.

so for real now, who will back up. there is a quote on rotoworld saying that Holmgren feels Bobo has been impressive but it's too soon for him. but, Backlund while back now is rusty.

It might be Bob for the first game or so if Backlund is still recovering. But they want to get Bob AHL starter experience. Not that it matters because they will almost certainly play Bouch the entire month of October save for the two back to back games at the end of the month. I would expect Backlund to start those.

That sounds more like a tumor to me! I think he would need to crap in his hockey pants a few times to create a horse-like saggy poop bag which would act to cover that 5 hole....
