Ennis looked amazing, easily our best offensive threat all night.
Schiestel looked very calm and collected and seems like he could step in at any time.
Kassian looked pretty good but I'm still worried about his character issues.
Adam showed flashes of brilliance but looked pretty nervous.
Morrisonn looked really good and very solid in his own end.

Butler looked pretty awful and it seemed like all his passes were coming up short.
McNabb looks like he's years away from the big leagues. Also I thought this guy was supposed to be a bruiser? He played softer than Andy Delmore tonight.
Poms had one great defensive play but for the rest of the night he seemed lost.
Stafford did absolutely nothing to show he was interested in keeping his job.

Best thing about tonight would be the $20 tickets for myself and 4 family members to sit 20 rows up at center ice. I know it's preseason, but of all the major sports I think hockey preseason games are by far the most entertaining.

the good
- i loved the Ennis-Nieds-Kassian line, and hope that it is permanent
- Kassian is as advertised
- Ennis is too
- Schiestel was very impressive
- Stafford showed that atleast mentally he knows he has to play bigger and stronger
- Sekera has the inside track to the #6 spot
- Enroth is due for a big year in Portland

the bad
- Luke Adam is a long ways away. He was terrible and his skating says he doesn't belong in the NHL
- Mcnabb as well, the skating is just not there
- Gerbe looks to be the odd man out right now.
- 5.3 million for Jason Pominville... and a NMC

Vanek-Roy-Stafford
Hecht-Connolly-Poms
Ennis-Nieds-Kassian
Kaleta-Goose-Grier
x McCormick

sign me up for that lineup please.

What were you watching? He was one of the best players on the ice tonight. I know you guys hate him, but really? He had all sorts of chances tonight.

But I thought putting Ennis with Rob Niedermayer was a complete waste and made no sense?!?!?

I also agree.
He had a few bad plays (maybe just one or two), but he put in lots of effort.

i really don't think we should categorize the lines with any kind of strong emphasis. it was mainly toronto's prospect team.

I missed the first period, but from what I saw, it was same old Stafford. Not impressed at all.

True - at least, he wasn't as invisible as Connolly though...

Along with Kassian's hits, the most pleasant surprise of the game was watching Morrisonn's play - he seems to complement Myers perfectly and not only has Tallinder's size/mobility but wasn't shy about laying out guys when they got near the net.

It was only one play but I didn't like how Niedermayer - supposedly a big, strong center - got outmuscled by a smaller Leaf on the faceoff that led to Kulemin's goal. Hopefully, that was just a fluke...

Connolly was invisible in the 1st period, but I thought he really stepped his game up in the 2nd/3rd periods. His first couple shifts especially in the 2nd period were fantastic.

Just got back (had to work 10p to 2a) from the game.
Good

I was very impressed by Kassian. He's changing my mind quickly.
Ennis is always dynamic. He just has to become more responsible defensively.
Miller being Miller
Morrison-Myers were decent
I liked Stafford's willingness to shoot, effort and overall physical play. I hope he is really the 2006-2007 Stafford and that he plays with fire in his belly.
Doug Allen's back. Hockey's back.

Bad-

Luke Adam- he had a couple good shifts but time in the A will definitely do him some good. He just seemed awkward. And the skating...
I didn't really notice the defense (I guess that's good).
Christian Hanson liked the penalty box.
Also, Gerbe- I thought he had a lot of extracurricular activity tonight- I don't know if that's good or bad but sometimes, his antics annoy me sometimes.

Adam used his size well and he had some good chances, but I think his size and nerves got in his way tonight.
I don't think his skating is that terrible as much as it is simply kind of choppy.

He knows how to score goals and create plays, and his shot looked powerful and his vision looked good out there, but I think he has trouble with his strides or something.
At times it was fine and at other times it was like he was laboring or something.

I'm not an expert or anything (ask Andy Sutton), but that is just what it seemed like to me.

I thought McNabb looked good in the sense that he didn't really mess up that much.
The skating was rough, but that was part of his initial scouting report, wasn't it?

I don't know about the creating plays part, but it was pretty evident to me that he knows where to go on the ice to find chances. If his linemates can get the puck to the net, he's got the ability to find those pucks and the big body to get those pucks back on net again. Andreychuk type abilities...

I think he's going to have a big year in Portland.

Well, he didn't create many scoring chances, but he seemed to be very smart when it comes to cycling and recovering pucks down low and around the net.
I recall a few times where he made some smart plays around the boards to linemates, but maybe I'm just being too positive or something.
Seeing the game with two hours of sleep kind of sucked.

Honestly I liked what I saw out of him. He missed a couple of golden oppertunites, but even the fact that he's getting those chances is a positive sign. Cycling is a big part of a quiet assassin's game

Connolly carried his playoff level over to this season. Nice.

Nieds looked like a good fit, Ennis and Kass played well, as did Myers. Y'all covered it.

Man, did that satisfy a craving or what? I needed that amid the Bills' start. Yesss
