Islanders have Training Camp invites

Manny Legace has been invited to camp. DP backup plan?

The New York Islanders announced today that Dean McAmmond, Manny Legace, Anders Eriksson, Krys Kolanos and Joel Martin have all accepted invitations to Training Camp on Professional Tryouts (PTO).

McAmmond is in camp now. He has a real shot as the Islanders need more penalty killers. I would take McAmmond over Hilbert any day for sure. There is no way Gordon is comfortable with Bailey and Konopka killing penalties and certainly not part of the 1st or 2nd group.

I'm hoping Rick can start 60 and get back to his All-Star form. The Isles really need him to if they want a playoff spot.

With goaltending jobs drying up as we get closer to the start of the regular season,I wonder if the isles could convince Legace to play for their ECHL team.

I believe Snow said they're going with only DiPietro/Rolison on the nhl roster and Poulin/Koskinen will share duties in Bridgeport.

If I'm Snow,I try to convince one of the unsigned ufa goalies to start the season in the ECHL,with the promise that if DiPietro gets hurt, they'll will be called up instead of one of the kids in the AHL.

Surprised mostly by Legace. There really is no spot even if Ricky gets hurt. I think the Islanders would be completely content with having Lawson sit on the bench and allow for both Miko and Poulin to get more playing time in the event of a Ricky injury.

As I said earlier we need at least another pker (ideally two) and as such McAmmond has a real shot).

We still have Lawson. Poulin or Miko will be starting in Kalamazoo. No way Legace goes down there to backup. He is basically praying for a couple of injuries.

Like the Legace invite. Hopefully one of our goalies can return to their 2008 All-Star form.

I have no idea why we would want Legace down here. I saw him play in an AHL game against the Houston Aeros last year and he was horrendous.

Same for Anders Eriksson, he hasn't been solid in quite a few years. I watched him alot in his stint in Calgary and he stunk up the joint!

McAmmond on the other hand, has a skill set that we can use now that Richard Park left town.

Legace played well for Carolina last year when Ward went down.

I don't know who their agents are, but it could be a factor in why they are there.

The only names that pop out are Legace and McAmmond. But where would Legace fit in...and is there room for McAmmond? I'm just not so sure.

And I'd probably rather have Gervais in there over Eriksson.

Mcammond wouldn't be bad as our 4th line center, better than Park.

yes, getting Legace as a replacement for Rolli after this year? If he makes the team and agrees to play the part of Biron this year???? (hey legace is 4 years younger)

I really like McAmmond for this team. Truthfully, he's probably more valuable to a better team but he will be very good for the Islanders, if he makes the team. He was very good for New Jersey last year as well.

I think he's an upgrade over Park, marginally but he'll probably be much more reliable than a Kokopka or Gillies.

This explains a lot. Apparently the NHL has some rule about playing vets in preseason games. Via Botta's twitter:

Quote:
Residual effect of Islanders playing 4 ex games ON 2 nights continues. Had to invite guys to camp just to meet NHL rule of playing vets.

as per point blank Jed Ortmeyer is in camp now as well. I remember him being a pretty good 4th liner with some value.

McAmmond-Konopka-Ortmeyer seems like a solid 4th line.

Ortmeyer is actually really interesting. I really liked him with the Rangers.

I also like your 4th line but Weight has a spot guaranteed.

One of Ortmeyer/McAmmond/Hilbert will make the team. We need that pker.

very true about Weight, the thing with him to me is does he hold any real value playing on the 4th line? A 4th line needs a mix of energy and being able to bang bodies. Is Weight really serviceable on any type of 4th line?
