Cammalleri lobbied Plekanec to stay

Quote:
Cammalleri really lobbied Tomas Plekanec to stay in Montreal. "Look at the great combinations. They build chemistry," he said. "Look at the Sedins." Doubt these two will reach that level, but they do work well together. Six years and $30 million helped (a little), but I'm sure it was nice for Plekanec to feel wanted.

there are those - Mike Cammalleri, Ryan Miller - who refuse to admit their toughest opponents. "Why let them know?" Cammalleri says.

One more note about Cammalleri. Asked about the Canadiens' captaincy, his comment was, "I think Stanley Cup-winning experience is important in that job."

Cammalleri is the greatest thing to happen to the Montreal Canadiens since George Gillett! This guy is the real deal and acts as if he was born to play in the pressure cooker that Montreal is.

I love his passion, leadership and positive attitude.

Can't wait to see him play with Plekanec for another 4 years or more!

Good find, Vinyl. Good to know Cammy went out of his way to try to influence Plekanec.

The more I learn about Cammy, the more I respect him. This is a guy totally dedicated to winning, on and off the ice. What a great teammate.

Seems like cammy gives a nod towards gionta being the captain.

Yup, when he mentions Cup experience as a factor

glad to hear it, but is anyone even the least bit surprised?

Cammy, and the other top guys on the team, would have been foolish not to get on the phone and lobby Pleks to re-sign with the team.

He was one of our best players all year, is a key piece to our offense (which was among the league worst, 5 on 5, last year), and there really wasn't anyone else available that could have replaced him.

Losing Pleks would have been a huge blow to the team for the next 2-3 years, and had an especially negative effect on Cammalleri... hence why it was a given that he'd be working Pleks until he signed on the dotted line.

now if only we could find someone on the roster buddy buddy enough with Chara, Kaberle or Phillips to convince them to sign here next summer

I find he's been pretty non-committal to these types of questions in the past which leads me to think he knows something that we don't know (at least officially, anyway)

...and Cammy came because of Gionta and Gomez.

Makes you wonder what the Habs would look like today if not for the Gomez signing. Probably a lot more like the Leafs (and likely with no equivalent for Eller, and Halak traded for a second, since there would have been no miracle run).

He also mentioned in the golf tournament interview that he was extremely happy that Plekanec stayed. You can definitely see why. Lots of chemistry between the two.

Let's hope we find a third guy there to complement them.

We probably would have lost Koivu still. Signed Kovalev last summer, and probably would have brought back Lang. We would have finished around 11th-13th in the conference and maybe would have drafted Granlund or Fowler.
