Is that just a plain red line between the Staples Center signs?

Should allow for faster reviews of disallowed goals at that height, though.

surprised we haven't had a rant about AEG spending $ on a new scoreboard instead of on players - lol

I think Phil wants to start an indoor soccer league and needed to improve the scoreboard.

The photo is a little deceiving at first glance. That thing is huge.

agree - but when the Kings defend on that side of the ice (2x a game I assume if AEG put it in the right spot), their GAA will be great. They could move it closer to the net and lower it just a tad more though.

I wonder how much of this was paid for by the Lakers? Or did AEG buy the whole thing?

It's interesting... looking online at other arena scoreboards (yes, I had a lot of time on my hands last night), I can't find one that looks similar to this. It definitely looks much larger than the old board (and larger in circumference than a lot of the new arena HD scoreboards). It's got one of those LED ribbons around the top - nothing on the bottom though.

I am thinking that it is just not fully assembled yet. I had heard that the LED ribbon would be above and below. I am sure this is being done now just prior to the NBA all star game. Not complaining that the Lakers rate a new board.

Nice... a lower ribbon not being installed yet makes sense... that's enough fragile electronics as it is.

Just looking at the scale of everything around it (those trucks parked next to it are telling - as is the fact that it nearly swallows all of center ice), I think we're going to be happy campers.

Now if they could just show us replays worth watching on it during the games.

That might be a beer issue and not a speaker issue.

No, seriously, the audio on anything shown on the video screens is completely unintelligible down there.

It's unintelligible upstairs behind the goals as well.

It appears from this shot of the scoreboard up in the rafters that they have added 4 smaller screens on the inside bottom of the scoreboard to allow folks on the glass and players on the benches to view replays and such without having to crane their necks back at an uncomfortable angle.

This was probably a necessity if the new board is significantly larger than the old one as it appears to be.

The lower LED ribbon has also been installed.
