Based on this picture, Gionta will be captain

They had a team shot of the Habs in the Gazette this morning, and Gionta is front and centre...

I don't think there's much doubt about Gionta being named Captain. He took the commemorative faceoff, now this pic, his on ice play whether it's a game or practice, the way he seems to handle himself off the ice, etc..
Sure seems to be going towards him.

Personally, I really don't care if they don't name a Captain for the whole year.

Usually it's the captain in the middle and the two A's besides the coaching staff...

Exactly. The other two "A"s are in the front row, Gionta got the middle.

13+ players gone from this photo, not including 2/3 of coaching staff and the ownership.

I know, I was disproving the poster who said he's there because he's short.

The photo suggests Gill and Cammalleri have As, while Gionta is Captain. I assume one of the two As will go to Markov when he returns??

I am more than happy with Gionta as captain!

If you look at the third picture (in which the photographer is touching Boivin) they have done a horrendous job of editing out Gionta's letter...

Picture is too blurred to make out if it is an "A" or "C", I believe it is still an "A" for now.

The third picture certainly isn't blurred...anyone who's used photoshop can tell that it's a poor editing job, should've clone stamped from the darker part of the jersey, not the shoulder. The seam at the shoulder is also missing and part of his number and part of his collar have magically disappeared.

You've gotta assume the only reason they would do that is to hide the 'C' right? What other possible explanation could there be? I may be missing something.

Seems like we have some proof at least, not that I have/had any doubt Gionta would be captain based on the season so far.

I like that they've given him the captaincy but not made it public to save him from the media madness at the beginning of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if they took a while to name him, while they may have internally after the 5 game road trip as they promised. I like our strategy with this.

Probably not that he's drunk? Seems like an odd comment to make. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised, we Habs fans are really pro weirdos.

As for the picture, I usually try not to speculate these kinds of things, but that photo seems pretty telling, having Gionta where he is. It seems Martin basically has his mind made up if you ask me.

Also, from the article:

Photographer Bob Fisher likes to heckle one player in his effort to get everybody to smile. This year's victim was goalie Jaroslav Halak: "You almost looked good in that one, Jaroslav."

lol, ouch

I think they are going to reveal the captain for the centennial game (December 4th against Boston think?) and that is the only reason it has not been announced yet.
