Apparently it's nothing serious. He's still slated to play in the friday preseason finale, as expected.
Doesn't sound too bad.
He probably was going to get the SJ game at home on Tuesday, but no big deal to sit him down and see how he feels. If he's fine for the Duck game on Friday, let him go, but if they really want to be safe, keep him out until the opener against LA.
Guess, that gives Schneider the start at home on Tuesday against SJ. Should see Lack against the Sharks the following night.
If Luongo can't go against the Ducks, we'll see Schneider for the finale as well.
We should still see a split up squad for the SJ games. I wouldn't expect any of the twins, Hamhuis, Edler, Kesler, etc. play both Shark games. You'll only see the AHL guys play both (ie. Sweatt boys, K-Conn, Oreskovich, etc. play both games). The Ducks game, we should see the full regular roster.
I'm not worried. Doesn't sound like it's anything serious. I just want Lou to make sure that he's not rushing it back. Starting off the season with a nagging groin tweak isn't worth it. Schneider is more than capable of handling a heavier workload if Luongo isn't 100%. There really is no point rushing it.
Though it sounds like it'll probably blow over as nothing given that he's still apparently slated to start later in the week.
Groin injuries are nothing to sneeze at for a goalie. Hopefully they're cautious as a groin injury can stay with a goalie all year.
You have to remember the word "strained". Unconditioned minor hockey goalies would routinely simply play through a strain and there is practically no chance it would get worse. Since Luongo is a professional of whom a lot of the team's fortunes rest, and it's the pre season....
Still, I'm sure Luongo plays through minor strains all the time. He's a goalie.
