I'd love Coburn too, but the Sharks are not dealing from a position of strength (3 goalies) and that needs to be recognized.
I think we'd have to add significantly. Maybe a good prospect, 1st, not sure.
Something like that maybe.
You'd have to consider the partner in the trade. There are goalies out there still the Flyers could get to stop-gap and they can always stick with Boucher for the first month too. But getting a starter in the market today isn't an easy task and we have 2 of them. Nitty is an upgrade for them and would mean Boucher would be back in the AHL.
They have more defensemen than needed. Both Braydon Coburn and Nitty on 2 year deals after which they are UFA's and were both signed this offseason. We would take back salary and cap space in the trade ... so I think its pretty close. But I hear your point and could give something to make a trade happen.
The Best Sports Team in the Bay Area for 20 Years
I want Niittymaki to go, but I doubt that teams are interested in him.
And to say that we have two proven goalies is a little ridiculous in my mind. Niittymaki has been in the NHL for awhile, but he's been average at best. And Niemi has only been a starter for a year, and he didn't do so well in the cup finals.
You people that mention niity to Philly do realize that he was run out of philly 2 years ago right for me the only guy that make sense would be greiss. Niity was broth in to be a starter/1b and is the only goalie under contract for the 12 season.
Looking at the sometimes insignificant preseason stats I see that Greiss has put up some solid numbers in the one game he played in. He is the youngest of the "three" in contention for the starting role and in comparison to the other two none of the three are proven, bonafide number one goaltenders. I'm sure that is debatable after Niemi's last season but to be quite clear he had a ton of defensive support and had terrible rebound control throughout the year. This may be a deficiency we see exposed this year or maybe not. Nittymaki had flashes of greatness but is nor do I ever think will be the go to guy as we saw in Philly and in Tampa. Personally I think Greiss has a great shot and am debating picking him up on waivers in a fantasy pool and getting rid of Osgood. I'd really appreciate some insight into who the best of the three has been and is most likely to own minutes this year.
Holmgren has stated multiple times that he is content with Leighton and Boucher.
And Doug Wilson said that he's fine with Niittymaki and Greiss.
Holmgren said this a while back, and now Leighton is hurt and probably won't play for at least a month. While I agree that Philly is a long-shot, I wouldn't rule out anything yet.
