Why are we even discussing Souray coming here. Forget character and whether he can still play, we can't even afford him. Even in the best case scenario of trading Rolston for him (not going to happen), he has a higher cap hit that Rolston so it makes our situation worse.
I said I'd take Souray at half the cost since he got put on waivers... IF LOU WAS ABLE TO DUMP ROLSTON AND SALVADOR.
I also said I'd take Souray over White and got flammed for it cause White's a beast on the PK.
First off Souray on waivers is not half the cost. That is only if he is put on re-entry waivers, which is no sure thing. The Oilers could decide to just loan him out to an AHL or Europe team and get rid of the full cap hit for the next few years.
As for your other post I think there is a difference between an forward who is bad defensively than a defensemen who is bad defensively. Ans yes you might be able to get away with one, but if Urbom makes the team he is going to be that one. You can't have 2.
with the forwards we have, give me a good defender and a poor offensive guy over an average offensive guy and an awful defender, any day of the week.
no one is saying we dont need another offensive minded guy. Souray isnt that.
Souray at 2.7M$ isn't all that bad if you ask me. If our d can't breakout of our zone, I don't care who we have on offense, they aren't getting the puck. If White could actually make a solid breakout pass once in a while, I wouldn't mind as much but that's not the case. He's basically giving the puck to the other team by shooting it off the glass, meaning that our forwards are spending more energy trying to get the puck back when we had position of it a few seconds ago.
I'm with you on the fact that we need another offensive minded d-men but at that price, he's probably our only option IMO.
We can't have a defense bereft of both White and Salvador. Not when we are going to be playing 2 rookies.
We have a defensive system were everything is about positioning. If Mottau did the job these past couple of years, I can't see why Souray would be any worst. He's a big body that would clear the crease and he still hits pretty hard.
Our rookies will probably be Urbom and Corrente. Urbom will be paired with a vet and Corrente isn't all that bad in his own zone.
Your love for anyone who has worn a Habs uniform is kind of... insane.
LOL... yeak ok. I wanted to add Plekanec via free agency and that's about it. He played very well with Elias in the WC and has emerged as one of the top 2 way centers in the league. SK has the potential to break out if he went elsewhere and that's probably going to happen in Nashville.

I'm not sure how bad Souray is defensively. But White is definitely superior to him in that regard. We won't know how much of a defensive liability both of our rookies will be, so I'd rather keep White for some semblance of competence on the defensive end.

I'm not sure if the Devils have that system anymore. In the preseason so far, the system has certainly been different.
I don't know if that's just because of so many new guys who aren't sure what they're doing yet, or a conscious effort to make some changes. It looks to me, just based off the 2 games, the defenseman are supposed to pursue puckcarriers a little more and the wingers are allowed to come down deeper in the zone to help provide pressure, probably to force a turnover.
It's tough to tell though, only 2 games and I think it's obvious the Devils have worked more on a new offensive system than the defensive system this camp.
For someone with the skill level of Mottau and the minutes he got, he did a FANTASTIC job IMO. We all know that he got overplayed and that he's no Lidstrom but with all of that, he managed to post decent numbers for a AHL caliber player playing top 4 minutes.
I don't see Lou being able to move Rolston. I also don't see him taking someone else's trash.
It's all speculation and we'll probably end up waiving the usual suspects. I was just pointing out that I wouldn't mind having Souray over White if it was capable money wise.
And yes, I'd rather keep Sal over White if I had to pick one.
Souray wouldn't fall to us on Re-entry waivers anyway. Not that we should claim him anyway. People saying to claim him obviously have not seen him play lately.
He's brutal, maybe all this will light a fire under him but I'm not willing to take the risk at that price.
I'd rather save the money and make an attempt to acquire Kaberle either in trade or free agency.
Adding a threat from the blueline while playing 5 Vs 5 would open up the game soooooo much more for guys like IK, Parise, Elias, etc... We have no one that can blast it from the point and teams will key in on it a couple of weeks into the season IMO.
So Stan thinks Mottau should run the Islanders PP while Streit is out.
Oh fer crying out loud, come back to reality Stan!
(in his defense, it's not as if the Isles are exactly loaded with options...who the **** IS gonna be on the blueline during their power play, Wisniewski? De Hann out of the womb?)
