I don't believe Brophy's "source close to the team", but until Parise signs an extension I won't make any assumptions.

There is one huge flaw in the report, the hopes to get an offer sheet part. These players for the most part aren't dumb. He has to know the Devils would match almost any offer sheet he would get. The report would be more believable if it said he is only interested in a one-year deal and will opt for arbitration.

Kypreos clearly did it last year, and I wouldn't put it past Brophy.

He could be doing it just to stir up attention, and considering the thread on the trade board about this, I'd say he was successful.
