Our goalie situation is crazy. We're so saturated with goalies we should start thinking about having a few of them hit the ice as defensemen. Seriously!

Ortio certainly won't be coming back, and I would bet on Karlsson heading back to Europe when/if he's assigned. Irving won't be going to (if there is a season) as he will be claimed.

Do we still have Andrew Engelage under contract? He was the main goalie in Utah last year.
I also really like the Taylor signing, but am confused with the Brust signing.
That's alot of goalies on 1 year contracts, their play this year (and even this fall) will dictate the pecking order.

It all makes for an interesting battle at training camp.

I'm just curious with 2 goalies signed to AHL deals, who would be the Flames 3rd goalie and where would he play since both spots in Abbotsford are taken.

As it stands right now the depth chart is as follows
Kipper
Irving
Karlsson
AHL goalies
Ortio

Ortio most likely won't come back to NA this year and if Irving looks good in camp Karlsson is the odd man out.

Regardless of how it works out, the Heat will have very good AHL goaltending next season and should be in the thick of things for the division title.

Any guessing on what Abby's line-up is going to look like next year?

Depends if there's an NHL season or not.

Have a lot of Cs right now, I wonder which will be playing wing. Among AHL vets, we have Krys Kolanos, Ben Walter, and Ben Street, who are all good enough to be scoring line AHL Cs.

They also have Reinhart incoming, who they should really be using as a top 2 C but maybe let him work into the AHL slowly on the 3rd line. I also wish Horak starts in the AHL (so he's not stuck in a checking role) but then that's another C. I believe Bancks has usually been a C.

They should probably try loan Walter to another AHL team and move Street to wing. So, optimistically, assuming no lockout:

Byron - Kolanos - Nemisz/Aliu
Ferland - Horak - Street
Sylvester - Reinhart - Howse
Estoclet/Elson - Laing - Eddy
extras: Bancks, Estoclet/Elson

Lamb - Carson
Breen - Callahan
Piskula - Martin
Tuzzolino/McKelvie

Taylor/Brust

dispatch Patterson and Cameron to Utah til their ELCs run out. It might be better for Elson's development to go to Utah too.

Then I guess that leaves Bartschi (duh), Bouma, and Nemisz or Aliu starting in CGY; one of Irving or Karlsson jettisoned.

I'd have Reinhart and Horak as the top two centres. Horak ought to be fine since he's already played a season in the NHL, and I don't think Reinhart is the kind of player who will need to be coddled at that level.

This is the first season in for-ev-er that I've actually held some interest in the Flames' AHL team.

Not exactly what I'd do, but I can take a stab at the top 9/4:

Baertschi-Horak-Kolanos
Nemisz-Reinhart-Ferland
Byron-Walter-Eddy

Brodie-Piskula
Lamb-Carson

4th line would probably some combination involving Bancks, Howse, Bouma, Aliu, etc. No idea about the bottom pairing.
