Top 10...by Position?

Hello all, Johnny in the UK here, trying to get a good "jist" on "whos who" in this years OHL.
Im afraid that the official OHL sites offer very little insight to the league, so I ask all here, who have imprerssed me with an abundance of knowledge, who are considered the Top players by position?
I know many people will have thier own ideas and views, and I dont want any users dropping gloves, but who would you consider the Top 10 Goalies? Top 10 stay at home D? Top 10 Offensive D? Top 10 Power Forwards? Tough Guys? Playmakers, Snipers?
All imput would be greatley appreciated.
Cheers
Jd (England)

I'm not going to try and rank players from all the teams, but I will comment on the Greyhounds.

Doubtful either of their goalies, Bryce O'Hagan and Matthew Murray (rookie), will be even considered to be in the top 10.

I don't think any of their defense men would make the top 10 for offense or defense, although Brandon Archibald and Brock Beukaboom are quite adequate in both areas neither really excel at either aspect. Ginaluca Curcurto looks like he has a very high offensive upside but it's a bit early to think he'll be top 10.

Dylan King led the league last year in fighting majors. He's an OA who's going to be relied on more this year so I don't know if he'll be fighting as much but you could probably argue that he'd be in the top 10 somewhere.

Brett Thompson did score 42 goals last year with the majority of them being on the PP, not sure if that would put him in the top 10 for snipers? Daniel Catennaci and Nick Cousins have started the season strong, both looking to be drafted this year. Another guy to keep an eye on is Carson Dubchak. Fantastic PK'er who is being given a bit more of an offensive role with the team. Could end the year leading the league in SH goals.

Overall the Hounds don't have any real superstars on their team but they do have a lot of young players with a lot of potential to be top 10, if not this year maybe next.

Thank you for the reply.
I had actually thought that Beaukaboom and Archibald were rated as one of the strongest pairs in the OHL.?
Thank you very much for your ratings, I will take a look at Dylan King, who seems pretty feisty!

That's a lot to ask for and those types of lists would take a lot of time to drum up.

I'm sure at some point this year, I'll put together some lists like the ones you've asked for, but I just don't have the time right now.

I won't rank them, but here's probably who I'd consider the top forwards, defenseman, and goalies in the league (if you're looking for names to follow). I've left out guys who could make the NHL still (Gudbranson, Burmistrov), just because it's uncertain as to whether they return.

Forwards
Greg McKegg
Taylor Beck
Peter Holland
Gabriel Landeskog
Christian Thomas
Tyler Toffoli
Joey Hishon
Matt Puempel
Ryan Spooner
Brett Thompson

Defense
Stephen Silas
Taylor Doherty
Ryan Murphy
Tony DeHart
Beau Schmitz
Ryan Ellis
Sam Lofquist
Travis Gibbons
Geoffrey Schemitsch
Brandon Archibald

Goalies
Peter Di Salvo
Brandon Foote
Phil Grubauer
Brandon Maxwell
Mark Visentin
Mavric Parks
Jack Campbell
JP Anderson
Petr Mrazek
Scott Wedgewood

I am going to go out on a limb to say that some Windsor Fans will be in here soon to dispute some rankings lol. I cant argue with it, they are so subjective.

I would agrue that Curcuruto should be in the top 10 for rookies... kid has been on fire during exhibition, and regular season. Looks like he should put up 40 points this year easily as a rookie d-man.. and would not be suprised if he has a ppg average sometime during an ohl season.

Perhaps, but who do you take out? From what I have seeen Curcuruto is a heck of talent, no doubt, but I would suggest that every player ahead of him is just as highly thought of.

Its no slight to him, just a very good year for 1st year players.

I'm not sure Beukaboom and Archibald will be paired together very often this year. Both will see a big increase in PP time this year so you'll probably see an increase in their point totals as a result but I'm not ready to put them in the top 10 just yet. I don't think 40 - 45 points from either of them would be a stretch.

I don't care if someone says Campbell and Ellis are the worst players in the CHL. To each their own.

As far as toughness goes, it's tough, pardon the pun, to get 10 legit heavies this year.

Here's a list of who should be there...

1. Zack Kassian
2. Jamie Devane
3. Andrew Clouthier
4. Kyle Flemington
5. Cody Sol
6. Victor Terreri
7. Shawn Szydlowski
8. Kyle Clifford
9. Jason Wilson
10. Derek Mathers
11. Paul Bezzo
12. Mike Mascioli
13. Taylor Doherty
14. Kyle Tarini

Out of those, if I was giving a reasonable Top 10 overall...

1. Kyle Clifford - Barrie
2. Zack Kassian - Windsor
3. Jamie Devane - Plymouth
4. Cody Sol - Kitchener
5. Derek Mathers - Peterborough
6. Kyle Flemington - Sarnia
7. Taylor Doherty - Kingston
8. Jason Wilson - Niagara
9. Mike Mascioli - Belleville
10. Kyle Tarini - Windsor

Again...this is a list given at almost 1am when I'm tired, so take it for what it's worth.

OHLTG, PacoSanchez15,Tigers1992, Libs, Brock and saska sault....
Thank you so much! I am so pleased that there are so many knowledgable fans here!
Truly, many thanks.

Thats exactley what I was after.
I am sorry if this has been asked before, but with the real OHL sites , curiuosly lacking, this has been the best method to learn about the players.

I know all these lists are subjective, etc, but I do enjoy reading about all the players mentioned (some i know from the NHL draft, of course, but I was very pleased to be learn about the others...also means I can change the ratings on Xbox to make things more realistic!)

So Kassian is also a tough guy too who can score? Maybe like a Shananhan, or are we more like a Tochett?

Master stroke with the rookie list guys! Saad is the kid in Saginaw...I will keep an eye out for him, although I have loved the few clips I have seen of Sarnias young Russians.

Keep the lists coming people, my project is going great now...
What do I still need...Snipers/Playmakers/Shut Down guys....and would love to hear from more people who have any lists/ratings.

I'd go as far as saying Kassian has the potential to be closer to a Bob Probert. He's big, he's nasty, he can score, and he can fight with the best of them.

Here's another category...

Top Imports:

Gabriel Landeskog, Kitchener (Sweden)

Future:

Tobias Rieder(Germany) also of Kitchener seems have the potential to be near the top of imports. Presently he's the top scoring rookie with 7 points (2g, 5a). I caught a Oshawa game and i was also impressed with Jennsen(sp?)

I've been pleasantly surprised by Terreri's hands.... not for fighting but for skill.

Wow, is Kassian that tough?

I have saw clips of his infamous hits, and relaised he played on an edge, i didnt realise he was so feared as a fighter.
Blimey, what a mix!

Loved the idea of the Import list too..so please keep em coming guys...You make my work day pass by very fast, and also improving my OHL on my Xbox with your knowledge!

Hello,

No argument from me on the ranking, other than it's looking like Kyle will be playing with the L.A. Kings this year. I would love to see him for another season but after watching him in camp, he's ready. It is looking like he's one of 4 guys realistically competing for three spots.

Cheers,
Shawn
