Kind of surprised with Syvret, not that he was playing great but....

Carlyle just doesn't seem to like Festerling, maybe because he is friends with QP

I guess this ends the Mikkelson/Festerling debate.

McElhinney wasn't too bad for us last season. I know he had that one bad game in preseason but I would be willing to give him a few more chances before I toss his butt to the curb.

Trying to clear some of the 6/7 defenseman. Syvret is a suprise, but they are probably doing it out of pity for Festerling. The guy has given it is his all and he's done everything he can in the AHL. If a team wants to give him an NHL shot, they will let him, if not he'll be a fixture for Syracuse.

If both leave I'd guess it's this (brace yourselves):

Lubo-Fowler
Sutton-Sbisa
Brookbank-Mara
Mikkelson

after 9 games fowler goes to juniors and hopefully Lydman is ready by then.

It's going to be a long season fellow Duck fans.

Haha I was only joking, I like Big McBackup, he played pretty well last season.

I don't judge off pre-season that much either, it's just doesn't mean anything.

I'd have my doubts over Gerber's fitness anyway given the sort of injury he had doesn't just go away

Lubo - Fowler would be disaster.
Maybe
Lubo-Sutton
Mara-Sbisa
Fowler-Brookbank
Mikk.

At first Fowler, then Mikk after 9 games. He could replace Lyd till he`s back, if he aren`t already then.

Then
Lubo - Lyd
Sutton - Sbisa
Mara - Brookbank

Taht is disasterous D anyway, and we finish outside top8 in west

Festerling, Syvret put on Waivers
OC Register

Quote:
The Ducks have put defensemen Brett Festerling and Danny Syvret on waivers Thursday and it can be a possible sign that the move strengthens Cam Fowler’s chances of making the team out of training camp.

Teams have until 9 a.m. PT on Friday to claim either player. It is very possible that both Festerling and Syvret will go unclaimed and the Ducks can retain their rights.

Festerling and Syvret are vying for one of the open spots on the blue line, which figures to have Lubomir Visnovsky, Andy Sutton, Sheldon Brookbank, Luca Sbisa and Paul Mara locked in. Both players are on two-way contracts and could wind up being sent to Syracuse, the Ducks’ AHL affiliate, if they clear waivers.

Having Gerber sit on the bench would guarantee us the Stanley Cup finals (like he did for Carolina and Ottawa).

Poor Syvret, comes here white as chalk and had to deal with the awful weather we had only to be sent back to New York.

I've been saying that all pre-season. I have no idea why Fowler plays with Lubo every pre-season game. He needs to be with a physical defensman, plus we get to see his offensive game more that way.

You usually pair your most experienced defensemen with your most inexperienced. Fowler is not going to learn anything playing with Sutton or Brookbank.

Surprised with Syvret considering he's on a 2-way deal and could be useful in Syracuse. I wouldn't cry if they were picked up, but I would like them both in Syracuse. Meanwhile, I'm glad we're hanging onto Mikkelson as the #7 for now and that the Festerling/Mikkelson/Syvret/Fowler/Sbisa questions have been sorted out.

My guess (and I haven't checked the numbers to be sure) is that both players have to clear waiver in order to be sent down to the AHL. This has nothing to do with the type of contract that they signed (Festerling's is also a two-way deal).

Pronger, Lidstrom and other, stronger two way defensemen can pull that off very well, but when Visnovsky's main strength is similar to Fowler's, one player can't do their job and the line will not do well. It's the same reason you don't put 3 snipers on a line. There's only one puck out there.

I don't like jumping on RC, but between this "top" pair and thinking Ryan-Selanne will work, I really have no idea what he is thinking. This isn't an allstar team, but there is talent and it's time to use it efficiently.

That is correct - both have to clear so either one could get picked up, though I'd wager they both make it through.

Maybe BM has something up his sleeve? I actually said that before and nothing happened so maybe he doesnt but maybe he does. I am banking on that he does. He has to see that our D hasnt gotten better its just very different that last years D. So lets hope something happens. I had a dream that I saw Kaberle here in anaheim and BR was still here too. So maybe there is a small and slight chance of him coming here. Who knows?????

Yes, and even more - i`m very sceptic on Lubos defensive game, so puting him with unexpiernced Fowler would be huge mistake.

You can`t just put 2 good players in pairing and hope they`ll work out fine.

True, but they are both offensive defenseman. Fowler would get more experience moving the puck if he was paired with a stay at home guy. He would have to be "the one" moving the puck in that pairing, getting more experience.
