Thomas Greiss vs. Corey Crawford

Greiss can be had for next to nothing right now and is on a 1 yr/500k contract. He'll have to be waived if he isn't traded; I'm not sure if he would make it to us. I would think Anahiem, Minnesota or Calgary would claim him. Is Crawford definitely better right now? Who has the higher potential?

Thomas Greiss is a great young talent. It's too bad that he barely played last year and has been thrown under the bus this year. He will be a very good goalie and his contract is very cap friendly. He has quite a bit of international experience for a goalie his age and was solid when used by San Jose last season. Either Chicago or Philly would be a perfect fit for him IMO.

I would like it... bring him to Chicago. He should be as good as Crawf, but has more experience

But I think we will stay and should stay with Crawf

If it means losing Crawford, hell no. I honestly think Crawford can be a really solid goalie if given the chance.

Greiss could be our starter moving forward. I see journeyman backup material out of Crawford.

Would be very happy with the swap.

If 1 of the 2 would say... OK, I play 1 year in the A and next year we battle it out, I would love to add Greiss (but won't happen)

I feel in love with this kid when he backstopped Germany in the Olympics. He was so young and played with such poise and skill vs NHL talent.

I drafted him in my keeper league that next year for my farm and had visions of him being godly in SJ.

I've never seen him play at that same level again. I've seen him play well in games and collect wins with good stats, but never that same level of dominance.

My instinct is to say no one seems to really have confidence in Crawford's ability in CHI management. That Greiss is a big upgrade because of his ability. However, there is this guy named Anderson that stops me from that.

Greiss may be cheap to be had, but he still will cost something. Goalie market is saturated and he can be had cheaper next year. Ride what ya got and see what happens is my feeling. Right now Crawford and Greiss are too close to make it matter and I do feel Crawford deserves the respect for the time he has put in.

I'm a fan of both kids.

Greiss will be had for dirt cheap. Longshot prospect or mid-late round at best.

Having Greiss over Crawford would have us saving $250,000 in cap space, which would allow us to get a player making $1 million more annually at the deadline. But, Corey might be better right now.

Why are you so obsessed with the deadline? Rental players haven't done **** for us these past two years; I'd hardly expect that to change now.

Agreed

I didn't care for Pahlsson deal (Giving up Wiz was mistake IMO)

And Boynton really didn't do much (Was solid in finals but not any better or worse then Hendry)

Dumping Barker was a +

Getting Johnsson (Cant blame guy for injury) and Leddy was just icing on cake

This thread is AWESOME!

Can someone bump the one where people were calling for Kaner to be traded for Ryan Miller?

at the time this thread was made there were valid issues with Crawford and I dont see any issues with any of what was said back then. I dont get the need to bring up old threads...we lived in that moment and had to discuss issuess at that time. It is so easy to go back and say look how wrong you were when in fact at the time it wasnt clear cut.

I think there is more scrutiny on posters from these very boards than for the actual scouts/gm's themselves that pick these kids year after year.
