Larsen turns into NHL stud PMD in 3 years, offersheet Brent Seabrook next July, youth progresses, Chiassson slots nicely into a 2nd line RW role eventually, Kari stays healthy, Stars sell, Richards signs lengthy deal and and and...
I think this team easily has the capability to finish as high as 6th in the west this season. I'm basing this on alot of things that could go wrong, sometimes badly, so this team also has the capability of finishing as low as 13th or 14th. It's all going to depend on Kari Lehtonen and the defense maturing to atleast playing not terrible. Improvement on special teams wouldn't hurt either.
Going forward I have alot of confidence in Joe Nieuwendyk to see this thing through to the end. He's going about it the right way. I'd say Dallas could be a legitimately tough team to play against this year and a solid playoff team, but going forward we should see the youth in this organization really come into it's prime and carry the team forward.
I'm not predicting championships because as we've seen with the Sharks most recently and earlier the Senators even the most talented and well constructed teams can fail to win a cup over the course of a decade due to simple bad luck. But I think Dallas can really become one of the top franchises in the league again..
Crawford fired by midseason. Richards traded at the deadline. Stars finish 8th and make the playoffs.
That is pretty damn bold, because on the surface it would seem the stars wouldnt trade richards if they were in playoff position and wouldnt be a playoff team if they were theyd surely fall out of playoff contention after trading him.
