Who needs goaltending when you have Karlsson? He played a great game tonight.
To be fair Karlsson did make an error and couldn't tie up Stephan well enough to stop the SH goal, but I just can't get mad at the guy when he dazzles me so much with his skating and offensive abilities.
I think Stepan is going to rack up the points if he's on the team, which he should be. I wouldn't rule out a around 50 point 1st season from him if he gets the minutes.
From what I've seen so far I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more than that. Dubinsky got 40 his first season and I think Stepan is a much greater talent right now than Dubinsky was when he entered into the league. But ultimately it's impossible to tell if he can handle an 82 game schedule. Dubinsky played two seasons in the AHL before making the jump, Stepan played none.
Stepan has "it" though. I think he has the potential to be a number #1 center. Not elite, but he'll be able to hang with the big boys on the top line just fine if called upon
just a DTE reminder; Stepan nearly cost us the game.
Aside from that, he looked great.
despite the fact that Staal was on the ice for many goals against, I though he actually looked really solid defensively this game, even before he scored the nice goal.
Del Zotto-Eminger is a nightmare.
I honestly think that Valentenko has had a better preseason than McDonagh. Give Pavel my full endorsement over him.
Christensen looks best with the Gaborik line, Stepps looked best with the avery line. Lets keep it that was and not muddy things up here.
Boyle's shot should have been stopped.
Thats about all I can think about for now, im sure something else will come to me.
i thought McDonagh was pretty good tonight....didn't notice him much which is a good thing. saw him get a few shots through from the point and is pretty mobile and strong in the defensive end. i thought girardi and eminger were our worst dmen tonight. it seemed like girardi lost gap control on a few plays throughout the night and really made a couple bad passes where it was very easily intercepted. i thought staal was good except for the 2nd goal where he was just sleeping.
u say christensen looks best with the gabs line and steps with the avery line but tonight steps was good with both lines and christensen was pretty invisible. it doesnt really matter though right now, with prospal and drury being out both will make the opening night roster and both will spend time centering gaborik when they play.
i really wanted eminger to be a serviceable 7th dman but he was horrible. if it were up to me i'd probably have Sauer/Gilroy rotate as the 6th/7th dman and have McDonagh as the 5th. a game like tonight also showed how much we missed rozsival in the top 4.
