Hey guys, when it comes to headshots, the league is going to get tougher with the suspensions this year...Would you be opposed to a rule that if a guy delivers a blow to the head ala Cooke/Savard that the player doing the hitting ( Cooke ) sits out the entire time, until the injured player comes back?
Would this finally end head shots? Would players finally get it?
I would be in favor but the first time a player without intent to injure accidentally injures somebody and gets screwed because the NHL decides to give him the suspension equal to the injury, people will complain big time.
Example, someone levels Subban with a head shot and he gets a concussion. Subban misses a few weeks, player comes back.
Scenario #2: Someone makes the EXACT same hit on Partice Bergeron. Guy sits out for what? A year? Two?
Every player is different and you cannot expect guys to track medical reports of opponents and then have to lay up on concussion guys because they fear ending their own careers.

Or, would this be way to severe?

i would rather have the player miss a fix amount of games and for the same length of the punishment the team looses a member of the squad on the roster. Also cut the salary while he is suspended.
Like I said in another thread I think if the referee's would just start calling every little penalty within 1-2 years you wouldn't have very many anymore and it would be a much cleaner sport in general.
Then when dirty hits do happen the penalty could be far more harsh but not equal to the length of the injury unless intent to injure can be proven.
Say roles are reversed. A guy like Peters hits Gill pretty hard, kind of dirty. Cammalleri notices and charges at Peters. He puts the elbow up, nails Peters in the head and knocks him out. So now, for the time being, you've lost your best goal scorer to a scrub. Hell, the coach might even say "Hey, you know what? Sit out for a while longer and say you're suffering from post-concussion syndrome.
So he misses 20-25 games and so does Cammy. Still sound like a good idea?
I don't think that rule would work well, but I am in favor of harsher penalties for headshots. Also, the league should be able to add to the suspension if a player ends up missing more time because of post concussion symptoms.

I think there are just too many variables to factor in. Was it intentional? Was the injury fluky? Does the player hit have a history of injury to the head? Does the hitter have a history of head shots? etc
Having a suspension match the injury sounds like a good eye for an eye solution but it will never work
