Would you want Souray if he was on re-entry waivers?

I take him !
But like it was said early, we can't keep both Spacek and Hamrlik

Quoted for truth...

I'd love to have a right-handed Souray to play with Markov, but no way can Souray play on the right side.

He already struggle mightly with is overall lack of mobility on the left side, it would be catastrophic to put him on the right.

If we can somehow trade Spacek for nothing (as a salary dump), then yes, I'd take Souray at 2.7, but most nhl teams would...

Markov-Hamrlik
Souray-Subban
Gill-Gorges

Anyway.

My opinion, no, but a yes if it was the Souray of a few years ago. This new Souray is older, more fragile and not as strong either. Plus if we wanted Souray, we'd have to get rid of Roman, and I don't want that. Souray has a nice slapper, but sucks D... D as in defensively. Roman might not have a great slapper, but atleast he's a better D-man than SOuray.
That's my question too.

I liked Souray a lot when he was a Hab but I ditto this opinion. Souray has leadership? He did but I don't know anymore. I'm not for players who air the dirty laundry in public. Putting Souray back on the Habs would be tremendous fodder for the media too IMO given his plight.

Souray has a great slapper. Well he did but how is it now with his recent string of injuries? If the Habs need the slapper then re-sign Bergie for possibly much less.

I'd rather the Habs spend the money on a younger d-man.

Souray and Spacek are overpaid offensive D with a defensive downside (AHL-level).

I wouldn't mind swapping them, at least Souray has a shot and can put in on the net 1/5 and he's a real RD.

We keep Hamrlik tought.

NOOOOOOOOOO!

That punk can sit and rot. Hamrlik is a better all round player, sans the attitude and prima donna BS that this fake has.

I would grab him in a heartbeat.

I see a little problem with your D pairings though. You have 5 RD and 1 LD

DO NOT WANT.

I'd rather stick with Hamrlik who is much more reliable defensively than with a highly injury-prone player who takes up too much space in the lockeroom.

Then next year we'll have cap space to hire a younger and better defenseman.

I seem to remember that Souray was pretty bad defensivly and I doubt he could keep the same pace offensively he had back then. I'd say no.

I'd be weary even at 2.7, it's a different team.

He's one dimensional with an iffy wrist(Red Light). His attitude is childish when things don't go his way.

The thing he said about the Oilers & their young guns is bad for motivation.

I can probably come up with 20 negs & only one pos the shot & he can't even do that with a bad wrist. Stick with Hamrlik, he's better all round & use the money to get a good upgrade next season.

Swapping Hamrlik and Souray is a no go (def vs off), but swapping him with Spacek, I would think it twice.

Maybe,Hamrlik is gone at the end of the year while Spacek has 2 years left like Souray and he would come cheaper on re-entry,that's not that bad of a move but I wouldn't trade the world to make room for Souray,he wanted to leave and is gone, don't really miss him

I'd rather make a trade for Bieksa at around the same dollar figure. If we really need a big shot again well we can get Mab for half the price.

Unless you mean on the PP, Souray is a left D. Spacek is average at best on the right side, i'll conceed. But Souray cant even hope to play that side 5 on 5.

Is Hammer really gone after this year? Just because his contract expires doesn't mean he might not stay with the Habs, possibly for less $$$...

Reason I say no is because if I wanted a pylon who could shoot I'd take the cheaper more effective pylon who isn't injured all the time in MAB.

Sure he's not a physical presence, sure he's a pylon but believe it or not Souray is even worse. But Souray is often injured and would cost 2.5 mil.

MAB could be had for league minimum to 1 mil. I mean frankly I also wouldn't do Edmonton any favors

Souray + Defenseman = MISNOMER

actually he is a guy that can shoot, that is all

Lets say you 20 pp goals out of him, he is poison to the rest of the team and you end up losing 60 5v5 goals because of it. He has clearly shown he is not a team first guy anymore and so he would stick out like a sore thumb with the Habs.

Keep Souray away!

Pretty sure it's possible. A lot of people seem to think he'll be gone but I actually think we're in a position where he could be had for cheap. Why not give him a shot if it's for like 1.5 mil, 2 mil?

He knows he isn't the same Hammer from those years back, I doubt he'll be looking for anything greater than 2.5-3 mil and there wouldn't be any takers. Wait a month and his demands become around the 1.5-2 mil level and he gets signed.

I wouldn't dream of signing Souray no matter how small a cap hit it would be. He's an over-the-hill Dman with defensive weaknesses and a creaky body.

If it's 2.7 for the duration, why not?

However, I don't see why this means instantly we have to dump Hamrlik.

If Markov is on LTIR to start the year, we can fit him in. Then maybe bury Spacek?

I would re-sign him if he took a huge cut in pay and as long as he didn't have an absolutely crappy season.

The cap hit would be $2,700,000.00 for the next 3 seasons and we can see a pairing like this:

Markov - Souray
Gorges - Subban
Picard - Gill
O'Byrne
I believe it would only be for one season and for that reason, I say no to Souray.
