Wellwood Cut

http://arizona.sbnation.com/phoenix-...-kyle-wellwood

Quote:
The Phoenix Coyotes announced that they’ve cut forward Kyle Wellwood from the training camp roster.

Wellwood, appeared in five preseason games with the Coyotes, recording two points.

The Coyotes now have 24 players remaining in camp. The team will play its final preseason game against Dinamo Riga (KHL) on Wednesday, Oct. 6 in Riga, Lativa.
Looks like Kyle Turris will be around for season start, folks.

So... What's going to happen to Droopy Dog now?

Poor guy. Maybe time to accept he'd be more of a commodity in Europe.

Any chance the Flames sign him? Last I heard they've had some injury problems with their centers.

If he was willing to take a 2 way contract for near league minimum and the understanding that he would more than likely be placed on waivers when Stajan or Langkow returned I don't think that would be to bad for the Flames(except that it would mean Stajan is probably out longer than speculated).

I don't know if he would be up for that though, could probably get several 2-way offers from other teams with a better shot at a permanent spot or could try the Europe route.

That's weird, he's still a quality NHL forward.

i dont know how people can question his heart ... if not for his heart, he would have been released a long time ago.

the canucks kept waiting for him to play himself out of the line up and he did a great job with the time he was given.

all jokes aside, he is a very good 3rd line center with a lot of hockey smarts. i'm sure someone will pick him up.

canucks would have kept him if we didn't have so many centers.

He's off now to his vacation home to prime for next training camp. It always looks more impressive when you can tell your coach you've lost 50 pounds instead of 10. Well I guess thats what happens when your a contestant on The Biggest Lose...

That sucks I was hoping he would make it. Oh well, I guess he could still land an NHL job this season if an injury or two happens.

When I read the title I thought you mean he was physically cut... really toned muscles and whatnot. Like, "Wow, that dude at the gym really cut!".

This type of cut makes more sense.

Sad.

I gotta say, I really like Wellwood, and enjoyed watching him play here in Vancouver. I really wanted him to find a spot in the NHL this year. He's one of those underdog "everyman" guys that you can't help but cheer for. If this was a movie, he'd battle back against all odds and somehow, impossibly, land a job on a first line on the worst team in the league, and win his team the cup in the 7th game final series in overtime. MUSIC SWELLS.... aaaaand -- roll credits.

He's still good enough to be an effective NHL player. It's not like he is Cheechoo with the Stars or Anson Carter a few years ago. He'll find a job.

I really hope he doesn't end up going to Europe. He's a quality player who deserves to be on an NHL roster.

He could make the third line on a lot of other teams. Hope he does. Quality individual.

Welly would look great with a great center. Pittsburgh should've signed him for cheap, they still can I guess.

He knows how to get open and is a wizard with the puck. He doesn't lose the puck easily either. I should add, most times while he played for the Canucks he seemed to lose it because he had to hold on too long because his linemates were offensively equivalent to koopa troopas. Welly also plays defense more than adequately. He'd definitely give Crosby or Malkin someone who they could bounce the puck off of when they can't force of will their way through the opposition on any given night. For anyone questioning his heart he might not for the stretch 82 but in the playoffs he comes to play. He'll sacrifice his body and do the little things needed to win.

I've wanted him in Buffalo for awhile, but with the signing of Rob Niedermayer we now have four centers. We have a lot of bodies vying for spots at forward, so Buffalo probably doesn't make sense as a current destination for Wellwood. He's one of those guys I want to see succeed somewhere.

Hopefully he doesn't sit around depressed and eating all day over getting cut. He could ruin that chiseled frame.

Knowing how movies work he would help defeat the team that released him from his tryout contract, which would unfortunately be the Coyotes.

Why don't the leafs take this guy???

No one is weaker down the middle than them

Islanders too...

Lots of teams could use Wellwood.

I was rooting for him to make our team. On the other hand, Turris beat him out. I'm sure hell catch on somewhere.
