Stan Fischler's NYR Preview

http://www.msg.com/blogs/stan-fischl...-bound-1.51123

Quote:
left wing Brandon (Bigger and Better) Dubinsky and right wing Ryan (The Rochester Rocket) Callahan -- each score 30 goals. And I think sophomore defenseman Michael (The Mark of Zorro) Del Zotto will emerge as one of the NHL's foremost power-play quarterbacks on the point.
Quote:
Then again, 26-year-old vet Steve (Call Me Steady) Eminger, who emigrated East in the Aaron Voros trade, easily could squeeze into the backline rotation by Opening Night.
Quote:
Speaking of positive adds, one of the most gifted is left wing Alexander (Free And Easy) Frolov, the ex-King whose gears will mesh perfectly with linemate -- and team-leading-scorer -- Marian (Lotta Action, Little Talk) Gaborik.
Quote:
Torts now has the luxury of an energized, fighting fourth line spearheaded by right wing Derek (The Great Intimidator) Boogaard, left wing Brandon (Bop Bop) Prust and Brian (Blimp) Boyle.

Enjoy.

When does Fischler ever say the NYR are going to be awful. Didn't he predict they'd win the division last yr. or something? Jeez.

Those are some of the worst nicknames I have ever seen.

Fischler is a disgrace. And totally misused by MSG Network. I'm actually embarrassed for him when he makes stuff up.

Wouldn't you love that? Fischler says were making the playoffs every season. It's nothing new.

Callahan and Dubi BOTH score 30? We'll be lucky if one of them does.

Fischler is someone's grandfather. Someone's really corny, annoying grandfather.

We could start Wade Redden at every position and he would say we have a chance at the playoffs, and could make a run.

He's become a total joke. Time to sit on the porch and drink lemonade, Stan.

I can't figure out who needs to go first, Stan, or Lou Holtz on College Gameday? Now that, is a disgrace. He can't even speak anymore.

Oh, throwing in another one: Dick Clark... like...wow...

Why is he using those stupid nicknames? Is he stealing Chris Berman's shtick now? Fischler's mind must be going at his advanced age.

He's like the crazy old WWII vet of MSG who has great stories from back in the day but is completely out of touch with things as they are currently.

But see that's the whole thing. If he was used in the right manner — historical pieces, retrospectives, the occasional studio appearance — he'd be endearing. He's great on the MSG Vault shows. The fact they're using him as an expert/insider is a farce.

Cringe-worthy article by Stan. These nicknames... I couldn't even read past "Mark of Zorro."

It's getting to the point where MSG should be nudging him towards retirement. Stan's almost 80 years old and he doesn't have much to offer in terms of analysis... he's just a homer for the 3 NYC area hockey teams.

If he is, I'm not sure he's got a grasp of the "joke".

I always enjoy reading his thoughts on trains and subways though.

Last year he predicted Matt Gilroy would win the Calder

The Rangers would finish 5th in conference

The Islanders would finish 8th in the conference.

Sidney Crosby would have burnout from doing too many interviews

Flyers atop the conference because of Ray Emery's re-emergence

On HNL last week he picked The Blackhawks to miss the playoffs entirely.

Oh btw NYR94 that fischler photo had me laughing . awesome stuff !
