L'Harceleur (Lars Eller)

I hear we have this new player, his name is something L'Harceleur? Sounds promising!

---

On a more serious note, why do SRC, RDS and TVA feel the need to always say his first and last name, hence L'Harceleur?

Nice nickname, thanks, I'll use it in the GDTs !

L'harceleur is awsome along the board and crashes to the net. He's everything that management asked from Latendresse. I'm sold, I'd rather have him -- keeping, controlling and passing the puck, while playing garbageman -- on Plekanec's line than Pouliot or Kostitsyn, who are snipers, because Pleks can score, and Cammy is already the sniper on that line. I really hope Kostitsyn gets a shot with Gomez and Gionta. I really like our potential top 6. Pouliot hasn't impressed me at all. He needs to pay his dues. But the rest looks neat.

L'harceleur needs to play au centre. He's a young Koivu, yes, I said it.

Because he harasses goalies and goes for the net? Dunno, but the first+last name combo is hilarious. You know Pierre says it just because it's fun as hell.

I still can't get enough of Vokaune and Vorjiak though...

But that is how he himself pronounces his name. I mean, do you want to be called Kimota or Kimoti?

love that one.

Maybe they say his first name because they know that they are going to throw on the cliched "H" in front of the E in Eller and make him sound demonic.

That's actually a very plausible theory.

Although I have heard them call him by his family name only sometimes (Ellaire)

This topic reminds me of an old Ainslin comic that I found flipping through one of his books. He drew it during the '72 Hockey Summit . He had Foster Hewitt pronouncing all those long Russian names with perfect elocution and without a moment's hesitation but when it came to Yvan Cournoyer, Foster Hewitt butchered his name three four times and never got it right and finally just gave up on it.

I wanted to thank Jack Bourdain, OP, because they were talking about this L'harceleur's chances of cracking the lineup and now I can't hear it any other way.

once you hear it, you can't unhear it.

I love how Pierre sometimes pronounces certain players names 2 different ways. Its as if hes not sure what the right one is so he just alternates between the 2.

Examples:

Metro-polit (proper pronunciation)
Metrup-olit

Kalet-a (proper)
ka-lee-ta

Good catch

For all his faults, I have a feeling that Pierre Houde tries his best when pronouncing names. Unlike the half-arsed emanations that come out of Renaud Lavoie's mouth...

Pronouncing "Vokoun" or "Dvorak" in English is like saying Patrick Woah or Mario Le-Mioo... Houde just pronounces their names correctly.

Damn am I tired of this one. Houde himself told during a game a good 3 years ago that he knew some people didn't liked the way he pronouced it, but that he asked Vokoun himself during the olympics.
