Both. The team is playing well but Domingue is also a huge part of this. Making the big saves at the right moments and distributing the puck like a third defenseman. It helps a lot when your defensemen don't have to get hit behind the net on the rush. The other team can't play dump and chase because Domingue always intercepts the puck, pass it to a defenseman who get it out of the zone instantly. Last game he had to step up (38 saves on 39 shots). He received a star in his last two games (3rd and 1st).

Before the series, medias were talking about how much of a challenge it would be for Quebec against Shawinigan because Shawi has a good goalie and they wren't sure about Domingue. Quebec has outscored Shawinigan 13-2 in the first two games and Domingue is looking much better than Shawinigan's goalie.

Sounds like Hextall and Szwarz could be signed in the near future provided $$ doesn't become an issue.

Treliving said they were trying to get something done with Hextall so it sounds like he's going pro. Also trying to get something done with Szwarz.

Can you compare his style to a goalie currently in the NHL or perhaps from the past? We know Visentin is the large, workaholic Sean Burke type.

Somewhere between Fleury (front of the net) and DiPietro (puck handling).

His talent analysis on HF is bang on:

Domingue plays a positional style, relying on his size to cover most of the net and always trying to remain square to the shooter. Although he has the skills to succeed, questions have been raised about his mental focus, both over the course of the entire 60 minutes of hockey as well as game-to-game. A strong puck-handler, he gets himself into trouble when he starts to do too much.

I see that Ulfie's son Philip signed a ELC with Pittsburgh.

My good source in Grand Forks told me Hextall signed today.

Edit: He was misinformed. He will sign this coming week the way it sounds now. Not sure why he would. Would love to see him stay at UND for his senior year.

He's been named 1st star in 2 of his last 5 games.

Hmm Nice, I think between him and Domingue you'll get your goalie of the future.

Any word on when this signing might be announced? Today, tomorrow?

Domingue stops 27 shots in a 9-2 win. It was the 7th game of the series.

Quebec will face Gatineau in the semi-final.

Well, he didn't crap the bed like Bryz. But his team smoked the other one, so how much can we really read into this? I'd love a report on how he plays in goalie duels or close games.

It was a close game until the beginning of the second period. Shawinigan had a lot of scoring chances in the first and he stopped everything. At 3-0, the game was over.

Gabriel Girard was the opposing goalie and a lot of people gave Shawinigan the edge between the pipes. However, Domingue played better than he did.

Next round will be against goaltender Maxime Clermont. He was selected in the 6th round by New Jersey in the same year as Domingue. Gatineau has a really good team and the Q best scorer of the season. It will be a good test.

How did Domingue play in the rest of the series? Looking at a couple of the scoresheets it looked like he might have been bested by Girard.

Does he have consistency issues or is this overplayed a bit?

Like I said earlier in this thread, his talent analysis on HF describes him really well:

Domingue plays a positional style, relying on his size to cover most of the net and always trying to remain square to the shooter. Although he has the skills to succeed, questions have been raised about his mental focus, both over the course of the entire 60 minutes of hockey as well as game-to-game. A strong puck-handler, he gets himself into trouble when he starts to do too much.

He was great in the first two games. Third game he had a really bad third period (as his team). He was good in the fourth game. Fifth game was his worst. Sixth game he was the reason why it wasn't 5-0 Shawinigan after one period. Seventh game he was great in the first period and then it was over after 5 minutes in the second. The team basically tried to not get injured in the rest of the game.

A source close to me (aka my family since I'm his cousin) told me that Jordan Szwarz was offered a contract by Phoenix. His agent and the team are just trying to negotiate a few numbers, but expect it to be done soon.

Maybe they'll announce Szwarz and Hextall at the same time?

Save some $$ on the PR's.

Not really a Coyote's prospect but this seemed to be the most appropriate thread.

http://gdrinnan.blogspot.com/

Down the page a bit under Meanwhile...

Sean Burke's boy Brendan has signed with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL. Apparently he had been considering the Under-17 U.S. National Development Team.

Good. The Coyotes need a whole lot more piss and vinegar. Can you compare him to some current NHLers? Maybe someone like Ott or Downie?

Ott maybe. I don't see him being on the big squad though for at least a couple years in my opinion.

Visentin's year is done as Mississauga eliminates Niagara in 5 games.

Domingue is the last North American prospect playing for the team.

Anybody know if Oscar Lindberg is still playing? My Swedish isn't all that good.

Edit: I suppose Lindberg's season must be done with the World Championships set to start shortly.

I've just had the privilege of watching him for three years here at UND and no he won't score a ton. He is capable of scoring (one hell of a one-timer from the circle) but his biggest assets are his physical play and his ability to get in the other teams heads. He will make a difference. One game against Denver he drew three penalties in a row during the same stop in play. I also remember hearing about the Colorado College coach asking the refs to please not let him skate by their bench on the way back to his because every time he did, he called the coaches fat. The CC coach was also very complimentary in the pre-game interview the next night and said he would love to have him on his team
love it.
