Yep, we've had some head scratchers on draft day. But I think finding our goalie of the future is kind of important. Very few second rounders become impact players anyways. I wouldn't be bothered much if we 'wasted' a second rounder almost every year on a goalie.

I would...let's use a 4th or 5th round selection on a goalie. That is why I didn't like the Visentin selection, because goalies are a complete crapshoot.

We've got Visentin and Domingue and they compare favorably to each other. One was drafted in the 1st round the other in the 5th...and Domingue is more athletic so I actually think he'll be the better goalie out of the two.

If it is the neck then he'll be back in a week. He's still going to play 40 or so games this year which is more than he would have played this year at the NCAA level.

We have lots of development time with Murphy. He does have a high upside.

Team Canada playing Team Switzerland in a pre-tournament game for the WJC tonight. Gormely already with a PP assist. Visentin not playing.

I should mention that I had stated in a different thread about Phoenix leveraging Turris to grab Boone Jenner from Columbus. Now, Rundblad isn't a guy that I believed would be available (he was the #7 overall prospect according to HF) but I should point out how much I love the way Jenner plays. I hope Chris Brown plays a similar style.

2 PP Assists by Gormely tonight in a one sided game against Switzerland. Of note are comments by Ray Ferraro who indicated that he believed Gormely to be the top blueliner on Team Canada. Very complimentary to his game.

Jenner is the player I wanted instead of Murphy.

I wanted Jenner too, but I wanted Jensen more than both of them.

I would guess that Visentin has played his way out of being the starter for Canada with how much he's struggled (or sucked) against Sweden tonight.

When it starts to go bad for this kid it seems to go really bad.

Just hope he's not another LeNeveu.

More like DesRochers. He was a first rounder.

Yes, and just another reason why Goalies should never be taken in the 1st round.

I wanted and we could have had Etem. With his speed he's going to create lots of chances and I do believe that in the end, Domingue will be our goalie of the future.

I took Etem with the 13th in a mock held on the prospects board before the draft. Of course Gormley was not available.

This scares me. I don't understand using anything higher than a 4th round pick on a goaltender.

There are some GM's who don't even like to draft D men in the first round given the developmental time.

Its sounding like Visentin might get the start against Finland tomorrow. As a Coyotes fan I'm glad he's getting a chance to redeem himself. As a Team Canada fan it scares the hell out of me.

He will start. It would be a poor coaching move otherwise.

If Wedgewood got the start and he crapped the bed then they would have to bring in Visentin. It's hardly an emotional lift if you bring in the goalie in relief who you have doubts about (similar to our reaction when Smith went down to the prospect of LOL coming in as our starter).

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I thought you could ONLY draft D in the first round? Are forwards only eligible for rounds two through seven? Somebody get Don Maloney on the phone!

Lets not be crazy. Even if it seems like the BPA is a forward, you better reach for a defenseman. Who cares if he has a spine to support himself?

lol. I'll take D before a G any day.

Gormely was a "we can't pass on this guy type selection". Nobody expected him to be there at 13. I had him at #3 on my list and Phoenix had him in their top 5.

I know you and I disagree about Murphy. I had him in my top 20 (the only D left on my list mind you). I actually only had one F ahead on my list if memory serves me correctly.

I'm willing to bet money that we don't draft a D this year in the first round.

Since I'm incredibly lazy, could someone give me a run down of which Coyote prospects are playing where? I saw you mention Gormley are there any others?

Excited to watch Jenner and Salomaki play each other today. They'd have been my first and second picks, instead of the nepotistical selections we actually made.

Also can't wait to see Gormley and Visentin. Also interesting to see just how far Granlund has come.

Everybody should tune in. It's on channel 215 if you have DTV. This is the best tournament on earth. Better than the Olympics and better than the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Missed the first period of the Canada/Finland game. How did our prospect(s) look? I know Vis is ours, but not sure if we have others on either of those teams? I really stink at following the young talent.
