I don't believe it...

Kaberle led the team with 6 shots on goal...

Pigs flying? Hell frozen?

Or...maybe it just took this long for him to get it. I hope.

It's obvious when he shoots, good things happen.

I did actually notice while watching that he was shooting the puck a heck of a lot. It's nice.

i heard burke is making him a special contract that if you shoot at least 5 times a game you get an extra million dollars a year

no but seriously, we have like two or three variations to our powerplay, no one can read us now, if we get 4 times on the pp, we're going to score... especially if phaneuf is holmstrom

He has been shooting more this preseason as the Leafs don't have as much structure on the PP. Rather than the set plays we've been using to try and get isolation on a bread & butter opportunities, we've taken the approach of keeping the puck moving in hopes that an opportunity opens up.

Tonight was obviously the most noticable because Grand Rapids left him wide open while trying to clear traffic from the crease, especially on that 5on3.

Kaberle leading the team in shots is not a good thing because he never shoots.

Maybe Wilson reminded him it's his contract year.

Really good to see him shoot more often. I think Kaberle puts up 60 points this year.

Its a contract year, Kabs is only "shooting" to up his value come negotation time, and to also show the rest of the league he's an elite defencmen. Once he gets a new contract or is traded, he will revert back to his "pass first" mentality.

if kaberle keeps on shooting, other teams will have to focus on him, thus freeing up dion a bit

i can see our pp improving if this continues

Yeah, I doubt that he's going to wind up enjoying scoring more points and becoming a better all-around player while helping out his team's dreadful powerplay and contributing to making the Maple Leafs a better team. If there's anything Kaberle has proven to us, it's that he only cares about the money he makes.

Kaberle finished 23rd in the NHL last year for shots by a defenseman.

Thank you. It's a myth that Kabs doesn't shoot the puck, he's just one of the better passers in the game.

It is not a myth, given his PP minutes and how we setup our powerplay (all point movement) he should be in the top 10.

So because he's not in the top-10, that means he never shoots the puck.

It's part of the new PP system Wilson is implimenting. Phaneuf goes to the front of the net with kessel moving all over the place and Kaberle at point taking shots. They wont use it all the time but it's a pretty good option.

your reading too much into stats ... if you have regulary watched leaf games over the last like 10 seasons kaberle will almsot always dish the puck to someone else than shoot, especially noticable on the pp, he usually decides to keep cycling the puck instead of taking a shot when hes in perfect position to do so... not really a bad thing but hes deff always been a pass 1st guy

reading too much into stats?

heh.

I think shots are a pretty good measure of how much a player shoots. call me crazy.

I really hope they keep rotating PP strategies. That should keep them guessing.

I think to mediate both points the argument is the quality of shots he has taken to be 23rd or 24th. Never high quality chances and usually go un noticed. Then when he does get the great chance he dishes it off giving the non shooting perception. What hopefully we will see thins year is continue to shoot but more at the opputune time!

1st PP unit looks really really good!

He actually does shoot a lot when he needs to.(worlds, Olympics, end of games etc)

Contract year might have something to do with it as well.

I think Pierre Macguire or someone was commenting that Kaberle should be passing it to phaneuf or kessel for the shot. I wasn't so happy with his comments.

I thought Kaberle looked great with his shots, and his decision making.

Kaberle has a very underrated shot. He proved it tonight, he is given tons of space on the pp because the opposition is always anticipating the pass to Phaneuf. If he keeps shooting like he was last night in Detroit, our powerplay will have way more success this season.

The biggest nonsense going around is that Kaberle does not shoot often enough. This has never been a problem. A power play point man isn't supposed to use only one of the options he has when the puck comes his way. Kaberle doesn't pound the puck into defenders shins or wildly wide of the net giving the opposition a free clearing play very frequently. That's a good thing. With Phaneuf now as Kaberle's power play partner, taking the 24th most shots in the NHL is probably him shooting too often.
