Sauer. Eminger & Gilroy make the final cut on D.

Good for Sauer. Hope he can stay healthy. McDonagh will be back up soon.

If Gilroy or Sauer couldn't be lost to waivers, it'd be the other way around.

Gilroy is just too much of a liability in our own zone. Eminger will play when Gilroy fumbles, and I can see Sauer sticking with the club. One of McD or Vtank will definitely be a midseason callup

kinda what I was thinking. I didn't really think MCD was that great, he was good, but Sauer was better and so was Gilroy. Eminger wasn't, but I doubt you want MCD as a 7th. He did play pretty good though.

Sauer deserves to be with the team. I would have gone with McD over Gilroy but Gilroy probably deserves another shot.

Why is Todd White still with the team?

Sauer earned his spot, Gilroy didn't deserve to make the team. McDonagh is ready, but obviously wasn't DEMANDING to be on the roster with his play.

Ah this franchise continues to amaze me

Eminger was ****ing brutal and thats putting it nicely, Mcdonagh should not have been sent down he was a victim of the situation and wasnt based on his play so all the management's talk about if the kids earn their spot they will make way is just that talk.

I am not surprised in the slightest to be honest.

So where are we exactly with the plan of this franchise? The Stepan situation makes me feel that the franchise is willing to go through growing pains with players who clearly will be a better longterm asset than the players theyre battling for spots with.

McDonagh and Valentenko will probably be better longterm options than the two players that gained the 3rd pairing spots.

Just more mixed messages from the organization.

Like I just posted in the other thread, neither Gilroy or Eminger should be one of the top six. I would have kept Valentenko, but he will benefit from some time in Hartford. Should have kept Semenov and made him the #6.

Good decision to send McDonagh down. He's not ready yet.

No one's arguing, eminger was brutal. But we all rather have McD and Vtank tear it up as a pair in Hartford for 30 min a night then sit in the press box. I'm pretty sure that's what it came down to for Sather

I actually agree with pretty much all of this.

Gilroy should be on a really short leash and Eminger is useless.

If Todd White makes the team I'm going to be really pissed off.

Based on merit, I would've ranked the 5 "bubble" d-men like this:

McDonagh
Sauer
Valentenko
Gilroy
Eminger

I think the logic behind keeping eminger is that the 7th D is RARELY going to be playing. Since all 3 guys that were kept up have to go through waivers, if an injury happens they can easily call up VTANK or McD to fill in.

I really don't think torts and co wanted any of gilroy, sauer, McD or VTANK to be sitting out a lot of games. If gilroy or sauer begins sucking it up, they will quickly be ousted from there spots.

I agree, I think the organization is ready to go through some growing pains, but I just feel like they are more comfortable going through Gilroy's growing pains than McDonagh or Valentenko. They don't feel like Valentenko is ready yet because he is a penalty machine. McDonagh can use some seasoning. They see some worthwhile upside with Gilroy and a player who isn't a rookie.

So, so glad for Sauer. I've been a huge fan and been bigger proponent for so long. He really earned it.

I assume Gilroy is the sixth and Eminger the seventh.

Saw McD and Tenko's re-assignment coming a mile away. Sauer has to be in his house/apartment jumping up and down going WOOOOHOOOO right now, it took him years but he's there.

Eminger...

Sauer was DEFINATELY better than McD, hands down....my rankings would be

Sauer
VTank
Gilroy/McD (probably give to McD because of his lack of experience in an NHL system)
Eminger

White is still with the team, Eminger is still here

They shouldnt be anywhere near this roster, their play doesnt deserve it. As i said i am not surprised in the slightest.

We've also now got a poor balance of lefty/righty d-men. 2 lefties (Staal and Del Zotto) and five righties (Rozi, Girardi, Gilroy, Sauer, Eminger).

Just doesn't make sense to me. One of Valentenko or McDonagh should've made this team.

Wow, good for Sauer. I gave up on him a couple of years ago, but this is nice to see. I kinda thought that with all the defensemen there, he really doesn't stand a chance. But this is a good chance for him, hopefully he'll run with it.

In the last game, I'll give Sauer the edge. However, over the full course of the training camp, I think McDonagh looked great, and was definitely better than Sauer in the earlier games.

People need to relax, I think. I don't see how re-assigning McDonagh and Valentenko means the organization isn't committed to youth. Sauer is 23 and Gilroy is second year player. The fact is two people had to get cut and people were going to be PO'd no matter which two they were.

I mean they kept Sauer because he forced them to keep him with his play, I feel like the Rangers did not have that expectation going into camp at all, and it's great, I'm happy for the kid.

With Gilroy who knows? We'll see what we have with him when the games start for real, I'd rather have McDonagh than him as well, but oh well.

As for Eminger, he's terrible, but it makes no sense to keep either McDonagh or Valentenko up as the 7th D at all. This is a non-issue for me, and frankly it should have been pretty obvious they were keeping him when he survived the previous cut without playing a game.
