McDonagh and Valentenko will probably be better longterm options than the two players that gained the 3rd pairing spots.

Just more mixed messages from the organization.

There is no plan of that i am certain.

I am not surprised in the slightest to be honest.
Yeah, because Eminger as the 7th man is going to see a lot of playing time. Let McDonagh actually receive playing time down with the Whalepack.

I don't have a problem with Eminger sticking around to sit in the press box. And I guess Gilroy gets the benefit of the doubt. Sauer deservedly won a spot. But, one of Valentenko or McDonagh should have made the squad. Unless, there's a deal to move one of the right-handed D-men, which changes everything.

I certainly understand your position. Personally I would've kept Gilroy and Sauer to rotate as the 6th and 7th dman, and Valentenko or McDonagh for the other bottom pair position.

Eminger was soundly outplayed by every other d-man. He was also outplayed by Semenov. Maybe it's because of injuries, and he's really going to bring more to the table than he showed, but I doubt it.

Wow. Sauer does not deserve to be on this team. He has done nothing. What did he do? Score a nice goal off of a beautiful feed? Like really.

ummmm trade coming?

McD and Valentenko are Lefties

Sauer as the 6th Great. I expect a move or waiver pick now. Is O'Brien a Righty?

Asset management here guys. Clearly.

If both Eminger and Gilroy had to clear waivers to go to the AHL, then making the decision to send McD and Vtank down makes sense.

I have to believe that there's a trade on the horizon that is going to free up the glut at forward and maybe make sense of the situation on Defence.

This is not the end of the world with thise moves. Not even close.

I'd certainly take Gilroy over Eminger. If they thought McDonagh wasn't quite ready for everyday play, then it's better for him to start in Hartford.

Good surprise to see Sauer staying. Haven't been much impressed by McD personally, nothing against him, he'll be a good Dman, but I think some seasoning in the A will benefit him. No need to rush him the same way we did with Gilroy last season. Same goes with Tank (love the intensity he brings), Both players will get top minutes with the pack, they'll help this team A LOT down the road.

Im fine with this decision. What i DONT understand is why they let Semenov go and KEPT EMINGER!! Eminger is useless. Semenov is a serveiceable NHL defenseman. He is a big physical body and he will stick up for his team mates.

I just think he shouldnt even be on the roster and for me my 3rd pairing would have been Mcdonagh-Sauer with Gilroy the 7th, Mcdonagh didnt look out of place he just did the simple thing but due to the contract situation with others which is the fault of our GM for having to make trades to cover the ******** contracts and signings that he made.

Mcdonagh would have seen roughly 15 minutes on the 3rd pairing and would have been learning against better players. I am sure that would have been more of a benefit.

This means they are forcing Gilroy over to LD. Interesting, to say the least.

Eminger, Sauer would need waivers, Valentenko and McDonagh don't...NYR takes path of least resistance for the moment.

******** that both McD and Tank didn't make it over Eminger. Eminger has not looked that good at all, hopefully management will see how bad he sucks once the season starts and will call up McD.

Really happy to see that Sauer made it, well deserved IMO.

EDIT- I also agree with TrueBlueNorwegian. I would of much rather had Semenov over Eminger.

I feel either Souray or Obrien will be a Ranger.

Sauer. Eminger & Gilroy make the final cut on D.
Very disappointed in McD being sent down. Was looking forward to seeing him develop HERE.

Eminger should be gone. He was atrocious. I like Gilroy, but would take McD over him in a heartbeat. I was down on Sauer at first, but he's grown on me quite a bit.

I hope to see McD up soon.

So far very questionable moves on the back end

Semenov> Eminger

Gilroy should not be on this team and is.

Let's see what's next.

NYR with 25 remaining on roster, would get to 23 by placing Drury and Prospal on IR to start season. Could be other moves before then.

Thats not the issue. I think Eminger was always going to be the 7th when they cut Semenov - its a good place for an experienced re-tread like those 2.

The issue is the third pairing, as Brooks noted, they went with the path of least resistance and went with the younger players that are a bit more seasoned. Cant kill the decision, but decisions like these really show no innovation.

Terrible, they should have cut the dead weight Gilroy and Rozsival.

Newsflash - Michal Rozsival is the Rangers second best defenseman.
