Update: Gudbranson rejects contract, back to juniors
ot a chance to chat with Panthers asst. GM Mike Santos at the Face-off Luncheon and he clarified a few matters for me. No. 1, the three players placed on waivers Sunday – Andrew Peters, Michael Grabner and Joe Callahan, The 24-hour time period to claim them doesn’t begin until Monday so teams have til noon Tuesday to make their claims.
Santos admitted he’d listen to trade offers for Grabner but would prefer to hold onto him and have him hone his offensive skils at Rochester. He also said he made an offer to Gudbranson’s agent Monday morning but doesn’t expect to hear back until Tuesday. Santos said that even though top draft picks are slotted there is some wiggle room plus the Panthers have leverage and own the rights to juniors for two years. So if his agent doesn’t accept, Santos would have no problem sending Gudbranson to juniors for another year of maturing. He used Dmitry Kulikov as an example as in ‘what’s the rush?’ Sure, Kulikov had a solid rookie season but what did it get the Panthers but another early golf tee time?
I’ll call Goody’s agent and see what’s up…
Do you think Gudbranson should stay up and join Kulikov or go back to the juniors?
My guess is that they will go the 9 game route and take it from there.
His play should be the determining factor though, not money. If he does well enough, then he should play in the NHL.
This is a kid who actually enjoys playing for this organization and being a Panther. You don't mess that up and take his spot away solely for money. Bouwmeester still held a grudge at this organization years after he was drafted due to what happened at the draft (trading down). I don't want a similar situation happening with Gudbranson.

he said the same thing about markstrom and it got done. and i dont see guds as being the type who wouldnt sign in order to get a better K. im sure the deal will get done and it will be a very solid, fair deal.
Budget restraints stopped Florida from giving Gudbranson the bonuses he was after. He made the team, but is now headed back to the OHL

So much for "earning" a spot on the team. LOL at this organization. As I said in the Grabner thread, this organization, Tallon or not, will be hampered by the budget and cheapness of ownership. We're talking less than a million for the max bonus right?
