Grabner claimed by NYI

per Bob McKenzie

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=826184

Really, though, he didn't earn a spot. This could be one of those that really comes back to bite us, or it could be one of those that makes us actually look smart. Tallon's hands were tied, imo, but I'm interested to see his take on this.

(Didn't the Isles take Schremp last season, too?)

That has to suck for panther fans.. your coach/gm should of kept him with the team because he always does nothing in the preseason but picks it up as time goes by

GR8Cam, is there any inside info on this one? The fact that he was put on waivers doesn't pass the smell test(strong possibility of him getting claimed and it came to fruition). I'm inclined to believe there were other factors besides his less than stellar play in the pre-season. Could it be that he didn't want to be here at all? I mean Santos even stated that the team was attempting to swing a trade with him per Fialkov.

Not quite attempting to deal him but willing to.

really bad move by Tallon, probably the worst so far Good old Cats again

wondering, why I'm still fan of this joke franchise...maybe I'm some kind of masochist...

Thought I had nothing to say but...

We must have a top-3 pick or a playoff-birth this year.. If not, Tallon would have make one big mistake in his rebuilding plan...

Islanders are just worst than us, that's it !

But hey they have Tavares... We have no one of that potential upfront, Couturier or Nugent-Hopkins ?

Thank you DT !

I love how people are quick to say this is a bad move. Way too early to tell.

Enlighten us on how losing a decent prospect for nothing is not a bad move.

I got to say I'm a big believer of Steve Bernier though !

The guy has the hands to score 30 goals in this league that's for sure...

And Quinton Howden will be a great player IMO

Wonder if the Panthers will turn around and claim someone else.

Oh and yes I was wrong about him clearing waivers.

There would have been absolutely no harm in putting him on the regular season roster and seeing how he did. From all accounts he always does poorly in pre-season play. We have given away a player with at the very least decent potential for nothing but a little cap relief.

Dale Tallon (Chicago) has officially joined Bryan Murray (Detroit) and Bill Torrey (NYI) as Architects of Stanley Cup Winning Teams who became idiots upon assuming the Post of Florida Panther General Manager!!!

We are trying to set a precedent around here that you earn a roster spot. Grabner was one of the worst players. Nothing noteworthy about him at all in preseason games or practice. Absolutely no production.

He has already been traded by the team who drafted him so his value has been reduced. With us putting him on waivers this confirms it. Prospects are completely overrated around here.

We don't have any roster spots to give to someone who doesn't deserve it.

The team did their due diligence in making this decision. They understood the risk. They seem to not think very highly of him so losing him for nothing isn't that big of a deal. They see everything, workouts in the gym, practice, games, etc.

It sucks to lose a prospect for nothing but chances are Grabner will not amount to much.

Tallon wants players to earn roster spots. There is no excuse for poor pre-season play.

So Olesz has earned a roster spot?

What about Kulikov with a -3. Or McCabe with a -4 and 0 pts, and so on and so forth?

Thats faulty logic, just because he performed poorly doesnt mean you dump him completely. It was a stupid move, stop defending it. We could have atleast kept him in the franchise somehow, or just traded him for a pick or a bag of pucks. Better than giving him to the islanders and paying some of his salary.

Not to mention, that doesn't even teach accountability. Now he just gets to go to the Islanders and be lazy on another team. Teaching accountability would be benching him or playing him on the 4th line, and making him earn his way back up.

He may be a decent prospect but he didnt do enough to win a spot. Vancouver fans telling us that oh thats just grabner , he holds back in the pre-season then turns it up in the season. To me that shows grabner doesnt have character, because if he did have character, he would be busting his ass to win a spot but grabner probably thought he was at least 90 percent sure to make it anyway , so he held back to not injure himself.
All we know at this moment is he has good potential to be a great nhler, whether he becomes a great nhler , who knows . On paper it looks like it but again to get really mad at DT for grabner getting claimed is jumping the gun. I understand that it sucks because we wanted to see what grabner can do and had high hopes for him but at the end of that day , again , too early to tell what michael grabner will become.

Oh and the islanders have to keep him in the nhl to hold onto him , cause if they try and send him down, he goes back on waivers , which then if the panthers didnt really wanna lose him , can pick him up again

Not sure who they would attempt to claim. Any ideas?

BTW, anyone have an accurate number of registered contracts we currently have, I think its 47/48.
