If a trade then why would they be expected on the ice tomorrow?

Just sayin, I bet Dubinsky would fair well production wise playing with an elite playmaker like Crosby.

The amount of wavier placing is nuts. I remember it being a lot more quiet.

Just because a player has been put on waivers doesn't mean he's going down right away. It might be for more strageic reasons they put them on waivers now--since a lot of other players from other teams are being waivered as well. At least in Kennedy's case the Rangers chances of keeping him in the organization would be better doing it now. When Drury and/or Prospal come back the Rangers can assign him to Hartford (I believe) without putting him on waivers again.

call me crazy but what if we started 7 d-men and had only 2 guys on our fourth line with a rotating center

then we play 2 d-men pairing and have souray on the pp

I know this would never happen but doesnt sound like a TERRIBLE idea lol

If he clears waivers, the Rangers have 10 games or 30 days to send him down, whichever comes first. After that he must clear waivers again.

Couldn't care less about White or Kennedy...With so many of the inconsequential Ranger forwards, we are basically talking about switching chairs on the deck of the Titanic...

I'm more interested in the potential D-man...We got Staal..And a collection of defensive stooges..Well, Rosey is good on some nights..and Girardi is a decent 2nd-3rd pair guy..That's it..Del Zotto and Gilroy are two of the worst defensive players in the league...and have no mentors......Emminger is even worse and is as soft as they come......Sauer is a depth D-man...We need a D-man BAD and we need one with attitude and one who can be defensively responsible and clear the crease and slot...SOURAY will just make the backline worse defensively..

I know there are other cases of players being waivered staying with their teams. If I remember Aaron Voros was such a case last year. Not going to say you're wrong but to be honest someone like Rangerboy who knows the ins and outs of the CBA would cut more ice on this.

I'm SO confused. What are they doing? I can't see this meaning anything but a trade.

How does the whole waived, but wait to send 'em down thing work? How long do you have to assign a player before it's officially deemed that you didn't send him down and you have to once again expose him to waivers before demoting him?

Some other random thoughts - this move guarantees that several questions up for debate have been resolved:

1) Stepan has made the team and is playing.

2) Feds is playing.

3) Boyle is the fourth line center.

4) Boogard is playing every game at least until Drury comes back (or another player is acquired).

5) All of a sudden the path for guys like MZA, Weise, Grachev and Byers is a lot clearer...

Very curious to see how this all shakes out.

Oh, also - I think that the Suter thing was all started by a poster who was making a sarcastic comment and didn't use the smilie.

Well that's a time frame they might be considering. Some teams might consider Kennedy but if they think someone else better might be available in a day or two they might hold off on claiming him.

Teams don't have 10 games or 30 days to claim the player.

They have 48 hours to place a claim., otherwise it's start from scratch and in 10 games or 30 days, depending on the standings from the previous sunday, you will either have an easier time claiming the player or a harder time claiming the player.

This is very strange. I can't imagine either of them being trade pieces and I'm not sure why Kennedy isn't the extra man seeing that he plays every position and is more than suitable for a 3rd/4th line checking role. I guess the thought might be that he cleared earlier before NYR got him so he could do it again in theory and they'd call him up if they need him? Its also not impossible that they're both just cut but this whole "on the ice tomorrow" thing is odd.

If they get Guerin I'm going to be so pissed. He is god awful.

I don't know what team is going to take our crap in exchange for a good top 4 guy. Maybe Rosie and a pick for a slight upgrade in that position? I'm just throwing ideas out there. I'm not sure what this team has to offer anybody for a player of real significance.

With the glut of players going through waivers now there's less to be sure about as far as the availability of other players over the next few days and Rangers management might think they can sneak him through now.
