I'm moving to Montreal tomorrow morning and starting my new job there. Don't tell any of the Ottawa fans, but I'm happy to be leaving

Was listening to Moffat and CJAD and the Habs game and suddenly they played the Don't Stop Believing Habs version? Anyone have a link for it? My mind was blown. It'd be appreciated.

Nevermind, think I found it. What a song

New guy here

Hey there all of you,
Been reading on this place for a while now, and finally made an account, mostly because other website did not satiate my Habs fix need.
So that's about that I guess, don't really know what to say, but I'd introduce myself.

You converted me. Not a huge SJS fan, but out of teams left. I respect Detroit, going for the underdog win with nashville and I would like to see SJS go deep. So essentially, in the west, anyone but vancouver, but SJS avatar came to me first

So in other news.... they finally found the body of Jolene Riendeau after 12 years. Homicide.

Link

Quote:
MONTREAL – Police announced Wednesday that they have found the remains of Jolène Riendeau, a 10-year-old Point St. Charles girl who went missing on April 13, 1999.

Montreal police Sgt. Ian Lafrenière refused to say where the remains were found or under what circumstances, citing the ongoing investigation to locate a suspect in the case.

“Sadly what we can say is that it was definitely a homicide,” Lafrenière said.

Super OT: Call Centre Job - Telus or Rogers ?

Hiya super amazing Mods!.... and posters

Is it possible to keep this up for a day or two? it be really appreciated...
I'm posting this question on HF because frankly, I'm not sure if there is a better suited forum than this one!

Here's the story: My girlfriend's friend from Russia moved to Montreal last November. She speaks both English and French, but her french is a bit weaker. She has passed a phone interview with Rogers, and has an in-person interview next week. She is expecting a phone interview with Telus next week.

Reading the reviews online it seems as though Rogers has a better working condition... however, Telus is paying significantly more!

Rogers Job - Customer Service - $15-16 / Hour
Telus Job - Loyalty and Retention - $22.50 / hour

The obvious choice is to take the better pay -- but she wants a job that she'll be able to hold for at least a Year.

I am sure we have posters who have worked in either office in the past, or still currently employed. Your feedback is appreciated as we are trying to help her make a decision and she doesn't really know too many people to help her in a possible decision.

Questions:

- Does an in-person interview mean she pretty much has the job? What kind of questions will they ask her? She would like to practice her french answers beforehand.

- Will she survive with a ''decent'' french in either job? (she is worried that she's not fluent enough... but passed a phone interview so maybe too worried?)

-Is it true that Rogers offers a much better working condition and more friendly atmosphere?

- Is a superior working condition at Rogers worth the steep discount in pay and salary? (ie: is risk of turnover higher at Telus?)

- What are the jobs like? She has NEVER done Call Centre work. Is it enjoyable? Hard? Easy? etc..

Both offices are in Ville St. Laurent ...and she does have a car.

Answers to questions and additional feedback would be greatly helpful to her!

Go for Telus.

My cousin is a unit Manager, has been working there for several years, the one right off Highway 13. Just recently, 4 Months ago, moved to Toronto and is working for Telus there. I got at least 3 other friends working in Telus downtown Montreal way over a year each.

Only know 1 person who works at Rogers, has been there for less then 6 months.

neither are very good jobs.

I had a buddy who worked for telus for a couple of years and he absolutely hated the place by the time he left.

there's a pretty good reason why they pay you that type of salary.

Pleasure to help in any way I can. I'm not sure if your girlfriend is going for a sales position or a customer service position, but here goes.

Not necessarily. An in-person interview means she qualified the first wave, and they believe she is a good speaking voice. From my experience, and not every call centre is the same, I was asked a few questions such as: What do you do if the client on the line refuses? How many rebuttals do you make, before ultimately letting the client go? How do you remain composed? After the short interview, I was briefed on the company and what they do, followed by a written test. The written test was based on what the interviewer told me of the company, which basically represented a test on how well I listen.

If she passed the phone interview, then she is qualified enough. Just tell her to remember to stay calm, listen to the questions and respond with simple, short answers. Most call centres don't care about bull-crap stories or long speeches. They want to know how she'll get the job done, and in an efficient manner.

Here I can't help you on that, as I've never worked at either place.

Well after three months, she'll get a pay hike of about $2-$3 (I know, quite a bit but that's what I got). If she does, then she'll be making close to $20 an hour. I would say take the discount and go with a better atmosphere. The major reason why I quit the call centre was because of a terrible atmosphere. It can really eat away at you.

Depends on the atmosphere really. It's easy work once you get the hang of things (which usually takes about a week or so). It's pretty basic work; you sit at a computer all day, your phone rings, you take the call and you either make the sale or help the client. Most of the stuff is read off the computer, so it isn't too difficult. It all depends on the people around you, that are working with you and your boss. If either or both or not pleasant, then her experience with the company will be a bad one. I held onto my job for about three months, before quitting because I was starting to develop stress bumps on the back of my neck.

Good luck to her, and I hope I've helped.
