Jokinen Doesn't like Media, tells them

Quote:
"I know you guys want to get as much information as you can. The only reason I'm doing this story is because I play hockey. My wife has nothing to do (with) it . . . I do this because it's my job."

"Don't care," blurted Jokinen. "I'm not going to read it anyway."

"The only way to keep a decent relationship with you guys is to not read the stuff that you guys write,"
I take it Jokinen thought these comments were kins off the record. I personally don't care if he doesn't like it, but am happy he does it.

Nice, go Olli. But then again, if you dont like the media, dont talk to them. Take after Kipper who somehow dodges all media after or before games.

True Kipper has always been excellent at avoiding them entirely

"I'm not sure how much you guys covered this . . . but there were some stories about me being a bad guy," says Jokinen. "But I think this - me coming back here - washes out all that."

That was a great read.

Can't say I blame him one bit for not paying any mind to the media and not reading those newspapers articles about him. But such is the life playing in a Canadian hockey market. If he thinks it can get frustrating with the media here during tough stretches, imagine playing in a market like Montreal?

Anyways, he sounds to be going into this season with something to prove, and that can only be good news for us. I hope he can achieve big things with this team.

One thing you can't call this guy is a quitter. I would have been pretty easy to hang up the phone when Sutter came callin' on July 1st and say "f-ck Calgary" after his experience here last year... Welcome back, Joker!

You really can't blame this guy. The media has absolutely trashed him for at least a year now. I'd be pretty ****ing pissed too. To hear such candid remarks from a guy, and that he is so determined to make it work, I really do have hope.

Its not that he didn't give effort last season, thats for sure.

See Kipper is smart and really uses his accent to his advantage " And ummmm we play good and we win ummmmmm" That's basically all he says.

I wish Jokinen would read the messageboards once in a while. He's actually got a lot of support and a lot of fans that hope he does well.

I don't think any players like the media... except maybe Conroy. Good on him to tell the truth.

If you read the article you would see that he does read the message boards.

I am assuming he hasn't for a while then because he does have a lot of well wishers at CP. A lot of people are rooting for him. Barely anyone is rude there or here.

The main boards were pretty rough on him.

Also, two words: Turkey girl.

Fair enough. But one would assume that the first player Olli would look would be CP.

I myself hardly ever read the main boards now.

Yeah Jokinens not exactly great with the media:

"What kind of ****ing question is that?"

To be fair it was a ******** question. Anyways great article though I will say I never got the vibe that Jokinen was being lambasted by the calgary media. The same people that were blasting Dion on his way out were saying good things about Jokinen. It was more the hockey media in general than calgary news.

(skip to 00:30 seconds if you don't want to be grossed out)

When I was in high school we had to do an english assignment on a "star" that said something inappropriate in public and I chose that. The teacher wasn't too happy when I played the uncensored version for the class.

That's awesome, I wish more players responded like that to stupid questions.

This is my favourite Jokinen video though:

I got the impression that Calgary was the best option out of a poor selection. It's not like many teams would've been interested in him.
