Spezza not on the ice this morning. Lines have been switched. Foligno-Fisher-Alfredsson. Michalek-Regin-Kovalev.
hopefully he'll be back tomorrow
If he's not on the ice today, it's likely his back that's bothering him. Welcome to another season of back-spasm Spezza. Not like they can sit him out for a few weeks.

should have dumped him when Murray had the chance. So frustrating.
Thing is with Jason we all know a "tweak" isn't just a "tweak". Back problems are usually chronic and his definitely are. The season starts with two games in a row....
Honestly,
Last year when Spezza and Alfie were both out. Our team was in not a good place. Then Alfie came back, and the team started to win and play much better. I am hoping that even if Spezza has issues, the rest of the team can really turn it up.
And with Spezza having issues. I'd rather him take a rest now, miss a few of the first games, and be the player he was post-injury last year, than play injured... not playing well, and have it end worse off than it needed to be.

That's fine and all, but history just keeps repeating itself with this guy. He's our top playmaker/point-producer and the highest paid player on the team. If he's going to keep tweaking every part of his body, the Sens are going nowhere.
He's never missed an important game (playoff or getting into the playoff important) because of this so I'd say that "going nowhere because of this" is an overreaction.
He'll play, and score that goal where he fakes Miller out and sneaks one in as Ryan lays lifeless outside the paint, frozen by the pure skill and awesomeness that is Jason Spezza. Book it!
As per TSN_WALLY on twitter : Clouston says Spezza has a groin injury and will be a game time decision,
+ Regin centering Michalek and Kovalev , Alfie skating with Fisher and Foligno

NHL players need to do more Yoga, could easily help the groin and back problems that some of them have.
Com'on man they are trained by some of the best trainers in the world. Do you really think they forgot to tell Spezza to stretch? They all workout based on a plan designed specifically for the game of hockey, that obviously includes stretching and flexibility. Injuries are part of the game, and these athletes push their bodies to the limit, sometimes they get hurt. This tweak is no different than what many players go through, it may take a day or so but spezza will be fine. I predict he plays.

Actually, static stretching leads to more injuries than not stretching at all because it leads to micro tears.
Movements at slow speed that you would do in terms of your sport however is totally fine.
The problem is that they're playing on ice. It's an imperfect surface. Even the best ice in the world gets quickly destroyed by 200+ lbs NHLers tearing it up at practice. All you need to do is one hard push and have the skate catch a rut. No amount of stretching is going to eliminate the possibility of groin injuries. They are a part of hockey. Our muscles were not designed to push outwards from the hips. Our skeletal structure is built to run, not to skate.

.
Theres no research with significant results to suggest that static stretching helps prevent injuries, nor cause (some disputed research suggests the possibility). Also it has been found that static stretching doesn't prevent or reduce muscle soreness after exercise. Another point of note, it effectively reduces muscle strength and power output, kinesthetic awareness and other things. Dynamic stretching mimicking sport specific movements is good though.

Hopefully it's very minor and only a couple of days thing. Can't go through a season of Spezza playing injured.
