As long as there is 1 veteran radio voice and 1 veteran production guy to guide and teach I like this idea. Better reception and range, no simulcasts and the possibility of innovative ideas from hungry youngsters. Cant be worse than simulcast on a crappy station IMO. Can only go up.

Botta said: WRHU covers most of Long Island and carries into Queens and Brooklyn. The Islanders broadcasts would also be available on the Internet

It's not wfan or espn but hey it's better then the bs we had to put up with last season hopefully its Kinger as the main play by play guy

Hofstra has an excellent radio station. It's more pro than you think.

They get a lot of guys that go into the radio business.

I've met a few of the students working there now and I must say I am pretty jealous of the opportunity that this presents them with.

Trust me, they know what they're doing there.

I live 45 min south of NYC (near Belmar NJ) and we cant get ESPN 1050, my rag friends get pretty pissed So they are not that powerful. WFAN starts going out near exit 5 on the TP but on a good day exit 1 near Del. I still think there neads to be a pro with them and maybe wang donates a 60,000Watt antena...LOL

I like the opportunity that this situation will offer to students looking to break into the industry. But part of me wishes that at least some aspect of this organization was just simply conventional and professional. That being said, it doesn't matter to me because I never listen to the games on the radio.

I agree, they have a really good facility, and the tower and signal seem quite powerful. Also, Hofstra would be invested in this, and they have the money and inclination to do a good job and keep improving things as they go along.

Ive been around Radio stations quite a bit. Both me and my older sister worked at our High school Radio, 91.9 The Arrow, and my Sis was a communications major at Hofstra working on that Radio as well. Like others have said, its a lot more Pro than you think, but at the same time, my High school radio station's broadcast is more powerful than Hofstra's. =(

You know when your professional sports franchise is so close to extinction in its own marketplace when begging for an "innovative" and "ground breaking" radio deal with a university...

People want you when you win. When you stink and stink for a very long time...you are not very attractive and must beg for attention. Right now, NYI are begging for attention.

CHI was extinct for number of years. Some smart drafting, then spending big money created a winning team. Not too long after, winning breeds attention, the latter is magnified by winning the sports holy grail.

Ineptitude gets you Hofstra Radio.

We have no beat reporters it seems (STRANG and Botta if he can pay for his website), radio doesn't reach the parking lot (but now it goes just past the parking lot! Yay.) and fans watch stupidity after stupidity with the Jaffe thing the latest (and we're hoping our waiver pickups count as successful trades).

Why would anyone bump "pet talk" or talk radio for Goring and Howie?

Hofstra....it's all we could get. Maybe if we win 30 games, we can aim for Adelphi next year.

I hate to admit it but that last statement is spot on. I have nothing to add to that because it perfectly and very simply sums it up.

I'd rather be on a Hofstra station than a station with Mike Francesa on it.

I wouldn't want the isles on any SHOW that has francesa, but the station as a whole cannot be topped. it is the premier AM sports radio station in the country. Its too bad they carry the devils. although ranger fans, both boomer and summers are knowledgable and passionate hockey fans. if WFAN agreed to carry isles games you NOT turn it down just because of Francesa. of course this will never happen and we are stuck with 94.3 or maybe 88.7 if a deal is worked out. The hofstra signal may be a little stronger than 94.3, but not by much - the sound quality in my car driving in western Nassau and Eastern Suffolk is still markedly less than other FM stations. Whatever station they are on I would love to see a proper dedicated radio broadcast and not the simulcast crap.

Oh, sorry, it only seems powerful to me as I am only about 4 miles from it, heh heh.
