I agree it looks like another move made at the request of Moose management; probably covering his one-way contract as well. Should be an interesting blueline down in Manitoba; will be intrigued to see who starts in the top-six down there.

That only applies to guys on two-way deals that are worth more than $105k in the minors, though. Paetsch is on a one-way.

Paetsch was part of the deadline deal that got Buffalo Raffi Torres. With Parent (traded for the rights to Hamhuis, of course) and now Paetsch, Gillis is clearly out to show that he can have his cake and eat it too.

Moose are loading up.

They are using the same philosophy in Hershey. Load the team to win it all and this helps the young guys like Hodgson, Schroeder etc so they could be part of a winning atmosphere.

Van and Manitoba are willing to dish the bucks to afford these one-way deals.

Win-Win situation. IMHO.

I like it. Another AHL veteran to help out our very inexperienced young players in Manitoba.

He's also someone who could potentially be recalled and not embarrass himself for a few games.

Maybe getting Paesch and Parent are deals to indicate that Bieksa will be moved. If a team wants to get Bieksa they wouldn't be giving up one of their Dmen. So maybe just maybe MG is making sure we have enough guys ready to play D incase he trades Bieksa for a 6th rounder and a subway sub.

This must be a Moose move. I'm fairly sure Paetsch would have to clear re-entry waivers to be recalled. (Plus he's worse than Parent and Sweatt)

Paetch was traded last year, along with a second round pick, for Raffi Torres.

The Panthers just signed him in July... guess he didn't make the team?

Let's hope, but it might just be Gillis being extra-cautious about injuries after getting burned last year.

If that's the case, though, one of the young guys is probably going to have to start in the ECHL...or go back to junior for an overage year. It's just too crowded for everybody right now.

What's up with this guy anyways; did he suffer a serious concussion in 08/09 that forced him to miss a bunch of the 09/10 season? Seems like he's only played 44 professional games (including NHL/AHL) over the last two years.

Seems like he was pretty good for Buffalo back in 06/07; 24 points over 63 games and a +10.

that's the curious thing.. if he was on a NHL roster, even if he wasn't dressing for games, he's still eligible for re-entry waivers.

I don't see any AHL games on his resume for the last few years, and TSN doesn't have any injuries listed over the last few years, so can we assume he was a healthy scratch?

We needed to fill our daily "trading with Florida" quota.

This trade has everything to do with yesterdays trade and it makes sense.

Because the Canucks had to be smart about their cap they likely couldn't take a chance on bringing back one way salary until after the 23 man roster was approved by the league.

So therefore a day later they added part two of the trade which sends a one way deal to Vancouver in return for a two way deal and the salaries are pretty close to a wash for a team like Florida that is a budget team and can't afford to be paying NHL salaries in the AHL.

I actually really like this depth acquisition. Paetsch likely isn't a guy who will play in Vancouver this season, but in case of a serious run of injuries (which as we know all too well isn't out of the realm of possibility), he is a capable guy who can step in and play. At the very least he's a solid presence on the blue line in Manitoba and should help an already talented farm team.

If you think you love Gillis, imagine how the GM of the Moose feels. He must think its Christmas and Gillis is the fat guy in the red suit.

^Zimmermann sucked a lot worse. Fact they turned him into anything is incredible.

Paetsch as taken some pretty nasty hits over his career but at least has played a fair bit in the League.

Canuck Owners or maybe Manitoba continue to show a willingness to take on salary.

Word from Gillis is that Paetsch will be staying with Rochester, at least temporarily: http://twitter.com/WinSunSports#

Makes some sense, it would be hard to cut down on this blueline, especially considering Curry was signed to a PTO earlier today:

Baumgartner - Connauton
Sweatt - Parent
Ramsey - Tanev
Oberg/Flood/Curry
