I expected worse. The Habs had a decent game despite missing 17 million from their payroll, including their top 2 D-men and top forward. It was fairly even at even-strength against a team that is usually stronger than the Habs at it.
Lacking all these guys really hurt on the PP though, and ideally that's the difference-maker for the Habs.
Even games like this, you win some, you lose some. I think this is a better sign for the future than Price stealing game 1 last year.
The Penguins will be a stiffer challenge obviously, but at least Cammalleri will be back. But so long as the Habs play D-men 3-8 on their depth chart, they'll struggle, although I'm not disappointed in how they did tonight despite this handicap.
Worried that Pouliot is getting demoted already though. Not entirely surprised, but worried. That missing top-6er that was the team's big hole all off-season looms large.
Its ridiculous to place a 5"9 cammy on a line thats alrdy too small, and thats BESIDES the fact that cammy and plek are MONEY together, forget spliting that up.
id REALLY REALLY consider putting the Eller that "I" just SAW vs the leafs on the gomez and gio line, hes got practicaly the size pouliot does but with 10x the effort
THOSE are the lines i want to see. The way eller was playing out there was not BECAUSE of the fact he was with plek and AK, that was HIM doing stuff, creating chances, so the chemistry thing is a moot point, that was the PLAYER looking good out there, and i say stick that kid with gomez and gio PRONTO
Lot of positives to bring out in tonights game, although I wouldn't have minded some more quality shots from the top 6. I really think we can go to Pittsburgh and beat them given this loss doesn't shake up the confidence in a few of our players, which I dont think it will.
If someone recorded the game I'd love to see the clip where Healy is talking about a Leaf player, Armstrong maybe, "flattening" Gorges while the video clearly shows him falling on his ass while Gorges skates away.
Price - Went down too early but his head was there. Had a good game mentally. He has to work on different parts of his game but mentally he was there tonight. That desperate save was amazing. He was confident tonight and the longer he keeps this up the better.
Eller - Showed something special tonight. When it starts clicking for him he's going to be dangerous. You can just tell he's a level above other prospects we've had.
PK - A veteran in a kid's body. Rookie of the Year.
Boyd - Great to see the new guy getting off to a good start.
Halpern - Ditto.
O'Byrne - Pathetic.
Picard - meh, nothing to be expected of him really.
Pouliot - Play like that and Eller has your position.
Plekanec - Played like the little girl tonight. Shied away tonight.
Gomez - Nothing really to say.
Gionta - meh, nice effort in the last 10 seconds.
Spacek - Threw some good hits but was owned like Souray vs. Spezza by MacArthur.
We played well without Markov, Hamrlik and Cammalleri. We actually OUTSHOT a team in the regular season. We can take a lot of good things away from this loss. I'm excited for this year after what I saw tonight.
I'm sure it's been mentioned a 1000 times but...Darche on the first line? On the ice last minute? C'MON GUY.
At least let Pouliot have a full game before we ling juggle. Gomez also looked terrible. Skate in the zone, turn over the puck.
Positively, Eller was a beast. If you really want to line juggle put him with Gio and G-love.
It was Moen not Darche, they misread 32 for 52.
EDIT: Just to let everyone know, I have a Small Size 46 Cammalleri jersey I'm selling (red). It's brand new from NHL.com, just going to pick up a Gionta instead. It's brand new with tags. Send me a message.
