So it's just the strategy of Tampa management. Is it usual to wait until the end of rookie contract? I mean by the other prospects?

It's not a contract, CHL Draftpicks have 2 years to sign, most teams wait until the 2 years to sign prospects. Sometimes teams will sign players before 2 years but usually only if they are top prospects (Stamkos, Hedman, Hall, etc) or had very good camps (Ashton and Wright under OK).

Thanks. You know, other Slovak prospects like Tatar or Viedensky signed contracts with their NHL clubs until 2012/2013, so It was a bit strange for me, why Panik has no longer.

Mike Angelidis has had a hell of a year in Norfolk under Cooper, I've been really impressed by his play. Even though he's on a one year contract, does anyone have any inklings on whether or not he'll be re-signed and have a shot out of camp next season? He's not a young stud or anything, but I think his improvement this season should be noted and he brings some toughness along with the ability to play the game.

Hard to see how he could had a real NHL shot when there are some better options in Norfolk right now but who knows. He might be perceive as a late bloomer.

I figure if Durno is an option and has played at the NHL level, Angelidis might have the ability to be a callup type guy down the road. Since he's made big improvements this year, who's not to say he can't improve a little more by the end of training camp? Either way, I'm a big fan of his play.

Just wanted to point out that Pánik is not really a CHL draft pick since he was drafted from Třínec of the Czech elite league.

I think this is his last year under contract to the Lightning, but does anyone see Mihalik as having any future in the NHL?

If he does, I think he'll need a change of scenery.

Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman told the St. Pete Times that Fadden is out for a minimum of three months. While this is essentially the rest of his season, technically he could join the Blades for a portion of the playoffs.

Aggressive yet intriguing rate on Janosik. How has he been performing this year? Always thought he was an intriguing selection, if not a steal...

I don't see Michael Zador on that list, is Tampa done with him? Just wondering because he is now 8-1 with Owen Sound since being traded from Oshawa. Is that just the defense padding his stats?

Any word on Vernace?

He was up early on, then was sent back down. Last I checked his stats it seemed like he was doing really well. Wonder if he could get another call up.

I don't think he'll get a contract. He hasn't had a good career in the OHL

We have 7 defensemen atm, 8 with Lundin, so no room for him right now. If someone get's injured and we drop to 6 I believe Roy and him are at the top of the list to get the call

He's got a couple things against him. We already have a lot of goaltender depth in front of him, especially if we continue to share the Everblades with Carolina plus he was picked by the former scouting director and under a different GM which makes it easier to admit a wasted pick.

That being said I haven't seen Zador this year and have no idea if his record is based on his play or inflated stats from a better team.

Yeah I know Roy is up there since he's been called up more recently.

I just figured if they liked what they saw from Vernace enough to put him on the starting roster he's got some talent.

I realize the Bergeron signing, and now recent call up, eliminated the younger guys getting a call up. But I guess that isn't always a bad thing.

Brett Connolly has 7 goals in his last 5 games for Prince George for a respectable 35 on the season in only 44 games. I wasn't much on his performance at the WJC, but he seems to be really getting back into the swing in the Dub.

Carter Ashton continues a pretty torrid pace with 7 goals and 15 assists in 14 games since the trade to Tri-City.

Norfolk outshot the Checkers 23-6 in the first period. No score though.

Connolly scored his 40th goal tonight. Looks like hes getting back into the swing of things.

Cant wait for Connolly-Stamkos for the next 10 years.

Tampa is going to sign Tyler Johnson of the Spokane Chiefs
Quote:
Sources in Canada have confirmed that Spokane native Tyler Johnson, the Spokane Chiefs' leading scorer, will sign a three-year entry level contract with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning when the Chiefs returns from their two-game weekend series in Prince George.
