Brandon Shea left Moncton in the QMJHL. Apparently unhappy with ice time in coach's extremely defensive system. Wonder if he'll temporarily head to the USHL before another QMJHL team can acquire him?

Pretty sad to see a kid who made such a risky decision compound the problem by making a really bad one. He might be on the road to being nothing more than another cautionary tale.
Weis looked very good with Corpus Christi at the beginning of the year. I don't think he's much of an NHL prospect at his size, but definitely a future college player.
Pecararo trying out for USNTDP; Boisvert opts out of Maine By Nathan Fournier Published: 1st March 2012
Quote:
2014 Maine recruit Liam Pecararo is getting the chance tryout for Team USA.
The 15-year-old forward of the Boston Advantages Under-18 team will head out to Ann Arbor, Mich., starting the week of March 19th for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program’s evaluation camp for the 2012-13 Under-17 team.
“Liam is a ’96 birth year that’s playing under-18 hockey,” said Joe Bracken, one of Boston Advantages’ under-18 team coaches. “He’s playing against (players) two-three years older than him. It has been a good year for him to have to battle against guys that are bigger and stronger.”
Most of the "names" are there outside of Nick Schmaltz as he's committed to playing for Green Bay next season. Marcel Godbout Is also missing.
Interesting that they went with 53 guys instead of the usual 40. I wonder if that's a sign of a weaker group or just a harder to read group. The fact that they got to see so many supposed best players at the Youth Olympics would have made me think things were a little more clear heading into the camp. Then again, maybe the poor showing there has them a bit nervous and wanting to look at as many options as possible.

They're dividing players into 3 teams for the camp. I think it was two in the past. Your guess as to why seems valid to me.
I guess after how lucky we were with the deep group of kids that we had with our 95's....this group just looks weak overall sadly. Only Blake Clarke and Jack Eichel are stars imo....the rest of the group has plenty of upside, but it just seems to be lacking highend talent imo. Obviously no Nick Schmaltz is a huge loss as well as Godbout, but I expected much more so far from the 96 group.
That defense just looks so very weak to me. we have been pleased over the years with excellent defense, but this overall group just really doesnt have any real highend talent yet. still a ways to go for many of these kids to rise, but I hope I am wrong with this group and they become a group of risers instead of the usual "sinkers" we see year in and out.

What do you guys think of the 2 Cleveland Barons kids? I've seen Magyar and Milano and I like both but I don't see much of their competition so it's hard for me to judge. I was very impressed by Milano's hockey sense and his hands/passing ability. Thoughts?

Well, as usual, you and I stand on opposite sides of opinion.
Ryan MacInnis, Alex Jasiek, Ryan Hitchcock, Ryan Tait are NOT high end talent? I disagree
On the Blueline, Nathan Billitier and Johnathan MacLeod are both very strong and are certainly "high end".
This group actually looks very deep to me. I had posted on another thread late last Summer, around the Hlinka, that NTDP was, out of necessity because of the strength of the 96-98 birth years, going to change its format and bypass a lot of district BS and go after a wider pool of players. Here we have it.

some of the players you named are not high end talents..(though as I said not 110% familiar with all East Coast players) Macinnis is solid, but I would not consider him high end. a lot of the kids are good to real good, but very little dynamic players in this group. you might have a different definition of high end then I do.. I like Tait, but again I have seen players like him before, doesnt wow me like Erne or Cammarata did from the 95's.
the 95's are much deeper then this group of players.
I cant speak for much on the east coast, but everything that includes mm/MM for tier-1, this group of kids is not that high end in comparison to last year.. plenty of time for things to change, but that is the weakest group of blueliners I have ever seen brought to this camp in any single year.
Eichel, Schmaltz, Clarke, and Larkin are my favs so far of this group....followed by Magyar, Tait, Dvorak, Macinnis, Milano, and Nanne

Correct. ALL of them are and I had even forgotten to include the tandem from the Barons who are playing lights out. The 1996 forwards I mentioned alone are a formidable 2 lines and throw in those two and Eichel and the 1996's may end up with three of the best lines to come through NTDP in 6 or7 years.

You're truly whacked. He'a a Top 10 scorer despite playing fewer games and he's among the leaders in PPG. He has tremendous size and speed and he is nowhere near finished in his physical growth. He can't be moved off of the puck now. When he adds 20 lbs in the next two years from growth alone it's only going to get harder.

Talk to some USHL players about what they think about this 1995 group. They have horrible goaltending, only two "high end" D in Santini and Chatham - although Butcher has been playing more physical as of late - and one "high end" line, if that. McCarron appears to have grown a waistline and nothing else. Fasching plays far too soft for his size and their most physical and aggressive player is 5'6" and doesn't weigh 150lbs soaking wet _ Anthony Louis. The 1995 team, while better to a man than what the original 1994's were has been an extrmemly disappointing lot in my opinion.

a lot more then just 2 highend d... McCoshen, Santini, Butcher, Savage, Thompson, are all high end, including Deangelo though he is OHL.
simply not sure if you are watching the same tier-1 games as I am...Macinnis is solid, but nothing amazing. I like Larkin and Magyar more then him...
2 of the top 3 players eligible for this team, they did not get; Schmaltz and Godbout...I just dont see that same highend talent that you do. I have no idea why you say the 95's are not highend....I dont care about the USHL perspective of the 95's, this group is well past just the USHL already. kids are excelling all over the place for the 95's... and much of what I have seen from much of the 95's in the USHL has been very promising. Cammarata and Motte are on another level then what is out there...they are simply sick.

Of that group exactly ONE is capable of making a break out pass or carrying the puck, Santini.
As I said, talk to some USHL players. They'll tell you Louis, Santini and Chatham are the best on that team. The rest either play soft, fear corners or are just not up to the level.

I've seen MacInnis several times this season as he plays not too far from my current hovel.

Well, it's not only me. It's why NTDP went to 53 and three teams and got input from USHL scouts as well as its local network of NTDP scouts. The 96-98 birth years have been increasingly viewed as three of the most talented years for US born players.

Because several of them are crapping out at the next level. As I said, talk to some USHL players. They got spanked in two more games over the weekend versus Lincoln and Chicago.

Another whacked statement. They've been getting rolled by USHL teams all season.

Cammarata is too small and he disappears in the physical games. He took two hits in the Prospects game and that was it for him.
With Cangelosi's year in the USHL, where do people see him drafted? He's on the small side only 5'8" but 50 pts in 43 gms, are you guys thinking 4th roundish for him. I don't watch much USHL, was hoping to get someone's perspective thats seen him play this year.

I spoke to one scout up at the Prospects about AC and he told me that there is something off in Cangelosi's game that he - and he cited others - just cannot put their finger on. He said that he seems to appear only when he scores and goes relatively unnnoticed in other aspects of the game. He's not a bad skater but he's not a particularly good one either and is easily knocked off the puck. He does have a great shot. He can move the puck but only in the offensive zone. A lot more questions than answers with this one.
Edges. Are you near St. Louis MO? I saw a younger team from there in a tourney (97s?) that had Keith Tkachuk's son on it and they seemed stacked with top end players.

I'm closer to St. Louis than anywhere else but in reality I'm not close to anything.
And, yes, it is a very good team with good players. As I mentioned, 96-98 is going to see a lot of US players on the top side of the draft.
Benilde-St. Margaret defenseman Jack Glover (6'2 170) is the first known commit to next year's NTDP team. Winning the Minnesota State Championship must have made that decision a lot easier.
