Hodgson sent down to Moose

As per Dan Murphy's Twitter. Salo to play, Canucks carrying 12 forwards atm.

That's a shame, I'm guessing it's a cap related move — but couldn't they just put Edler on LTIR?

Interesting choice to run with only 12 forwards. I wonder if they'll call someone else up? Sweatt deserves a shot from all accounts.

Unless he's making faster progress?

Or Gillis is planning on making a trade before the deadline and is getting his ducks in a row?

What?

Well that makes no sense; either someone's coming up (I can't think of a centre in the system we haven't tried yet...maybe the return of Bliznak or Bodluc) or there is a trade brewing.

Running a 4th line of : Tambellini-Glass-Oreskovich just sounds like you don't care who is on your 4th line (or if they even play their position), and figure you can just run a ****-mix down there.

good, he got his time in the N. Got his first goal. Now go work on what you need to work on in the A.

Hopefully this signifies a move that will bring in some much needed bottom 6 help.

The move already happened.

ORESKOVICH

(You can almost spell Ovechkin with that)

Probably mostly for cap reasons at this point with Salo coming back. We'll see what happens at the deadline but I wouldn't be surprised if he's back up at some point.

In terms of roster spots, the Canucks are in a bit of a bind right now, aren't they? Ballard wasn't placed on LTIR, was he?

This is a terrible plan...so we've got a guy playing out of position (Glass), a streaky scorer (Tambellini), and an AHLer (Oreskovich) on our 4th line now. How do we figure this will succeed where the other combinations have failed? I really hope this signifies a trade for a real 4th line centre or something.

Wow that's a bit of a surprise, I thought Hodgson played very well here. Perhaps he'll go down to the Moose, play on the top line and continue to develop as a top line forward after having a taste of the NHL game and the NHL speed?

I thought after his last game, he was showing more signs of being better offensively....looked good with better linemates.

Hope to see him go down, and try and prove he should be back up here.

I don't think so, but to be honest, I have no clue what our cap situation is at this point and who's on LTIR and who isn't. Still don't really get this move, Hodgson was playing really well, I thought.

There is no reason to believe that this is in anyway a permanent solution.

No, but he could easily be put on regular IR, which opens up a roster spot. The only requirement is that he miss 7 days of action, which he's obviously going to.

Well it's been the solution for over half the season already, and a lot of posters wondered about the lack of a 4th line centre since training camp. Now we have probably the worst 4th line in the league, if only because we have guys playing out of position (both on the depth chart and their literal on-ice position).

How the Canucks choose their 4th line combinations:

Well, you go ahead and panic then. Hodgson was likely sent down for cap reasons and the trade deadline is coming up, there is no way Gillis will go into the playoffs with that 4th line.

Unless this is a cap related move, or there's something else up (Konopka?), this move doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

In the 5 games Hodgson played, who in the bottom six was better? I can't think of anybody.

I'm not in a 'panic' of any sort; I just think this has to signal a trade or it makes no sense. Especially when your defensive depth has taken such a hit, we need as much forward depth on all four lines as possible to counter-act the fact we have Rome/Alberts both playing on our top-two pairings.

Well, our 4th line sucks again.

Would be nice if AV could provide some reasoning.

Having said that, anyone really expected Cody to stay with the big club for good?
