How bout a draft day contest?

I know many people have submitted their mock draft day lists, so why not a contest?

Top 30 only, players lose one point for each spot they are off on player.

For example say I pick Schremp at 10 but he goes 14th. I lose 4 points.

The lowest score wins and gets the title "Draft Guru".

Anyone game?

I would volunteer to keep track of entries (either by pm or by thread) and total the entries when they are done.

If people like the idea maybe we could sticky the thread?

Great idea! Should Flaming post his list now or wait until he gets the Oiler list? :lol

Sure. I'm up for it. My mock draft list is probably something I'll finish by the end of the week.

Shouldn't that be highest score wins?

Or if you gain 4 points by making an error in 4 spots... that would work as well with lowest score wins.

No because the object is to be as close as possible to draft day.

So really perfect score would be 0, in other words you got all positions exactly as drafted. The farther you are away the worst you did.

Deadline will be the night before the draft at 6:00 p.m.

Maybe if one of the admins could sticky this it would be easier to see.

How about adding a tie breaker (because you can bet there will be). Something like:
Tie breakers:
1.Who will the Oilers pick with their 14th
2.Who will the Oilers pick with their 25

So if there is a tie in points among a few people, eliminating all those that didn't get the first Oilers pick right would narrow it down, and if there is STILL a tie, then who ever picked the 25th right shouldn't leave to many options....

Just a thought....

Great idea!! That will be the tiebreaker question.

Never mind. I just thought a negative number is a smaller score than 0... so lowest score isn't really the winner. A little nitpicking but I just wanted to be sure.

What happens if Lowe trades down for... say Washington's two picks?

I had a friend who had an easier scoring system. 3 points if you had the name and the draft position correct.(Ovechkin placed at 1 would give you three points.) And one point if you had the name correct but in the wrong spot.(Ovechkin placed at 2nd overall would only give you 1 point.)

Easier to keep track of for sure.

It doesn't really matter on the bottom of the page just put the Oiler picks in the first round. If you think he is going to trade up for example just put the name of that player. For example.

Barker.
Chipchura.

The Oiler picks are the tie breaker. So the names are the important element.

This is the scoring system we used at work one year so I am familiar with it. I am sure there is more than one way to do it obviously but this one worked well. It makes the emphasis more on the picks and you don't have to worry about trades. You just pick the players you think will go in order from 1 to 30.

Ohhhhhhh, you mean the closer to zero! I was lost too for a bit. I thought you meant lower as in most negative.

Cause then my mock would be me and my buddies. Pretty sure we forgot to send in our paperword again this year

I agree with this method. This way it's possible to get all the first rounders, even if they are in the wrong spots. But you'd get no points for having a name of a player not picked in the first round on your list.

So if you say: Cory Schneider drafted 28th overall but he's not drafted until the second round you get a big ZERO
If you say:Enver Lisin drafted 17th overall and he's drafted 19th overall, you get 1point.
If you say: Evgeny Malkin drafted 2nd overall and he is you get 3pts.

I guess everyone would start with at least 6pts in the bank
