LT, no Blake Wheeler in your first round?

And Hossa, I bet you're more than welcome to give your opinions.

Anyways, Spaz. Here's my list so far. It might be subject to change from now until the draft but I don't think so. There are a couple of reaches I made especially for Calgary and New Jersey... Graham and Salmonsson especially. But everyone needs some surprises. I think you can almost guarantee that if Nashville has Chipchura still on board... it's a safe bet that they'll pick him based on their past drafts. (namely Legwand from OHL, Hartnell, Upshall... from the WHL - all play the same two-way style)

1. Washington Capitals - Alexander Ovechkin

2. Pittsburg Penguins - Evgeni Malkin

3. Chicago Blackhawks - Rostislav Olesz

4. Columbus Bluejackets - Cameron Barker

5. Phoenix Coyotes - Alvaro Montoya

6. New York Rangers - Andrew Ladd

7. Florida Panthers - Lauri Tukonen

8. Carolina Panthers - AJ Thelen

9. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Rob Schremp

10. Atlanta Thrashers - Andrej Meszaros

26. Vancouver Canucks - Wes O'Neill

28. San Jose Sharks - Jakub Sindel

29. Washington Capitals - Dave Bolland

30. Tampa Bay Lightening - Travis Zajac

Just in case players that didn't opt in Hensick, Yandle, Koziara, Berry, Sigalet, Matt Greene and Aiello.

The only one that someone might have stuck in the first round is Hensick.

Nice list, btw, I hope the Oilers get the guys you chose, and a very interesting pick for the Flames. I can see him being a Sutter type player for certain.

just a quick question before I toss my list up there... are we going by who gets picked where and by what team, or is it just where they are picked?

I don't know if we'd see Tukonen fall to 14 or Korpikowski fall to 25 - but I'd love it if those were the Oilers' picks!

I don't know. I tried to look at what each team needed rather then BPA and that is what popped out. I guess we'll see what happens. I wasn't actively trying to get anyone for the Oilers, just going by need.

But you're right, that would rule

RW of Hemsky, Dvoark, Tukonen and Korpikowski would rule.
LW of Smyth, Torres, Moreau, Isbister.

Then we just need the C's. Next year I guess. When we trade up to get Crosby.

Mmmm Crosby, Niinimaki, Pouliot, Stoll... That would rule :lol

One of my thoughts was that Tukonen and Korp played on the same line didn't they? Plus we have good luck with Fins. So after Tuk went at 14, Korp was the obvious pick at 25.

I was just nudging you LT. I know you liked him. Heck, I like him too but just couldn't make room for him in the top 30. I found your mock interesting as well. 5 goalies in the first round - I'm not sure I've ever witnessed that. Good stuff.

I'm definitely in, what's the cut-off for submitting a list.

Might as well wait and see what rumors start pouring out of the local papers as the draft approaches?

Hey no worries. I'm certainly no expert at this, so nudge away. It's fun to do, though, and in a way it offers insight into how really difficult it must be for an individual team. They always say bpa but realistically Buffalo isn't going to take a goalie even if Schwarz and Montoya are available. So, if you're Edmonton, once you make your list and sit there waiting for the draft, nothing at all has been decided. I mean, unless you can trade up to get the guy you want, its just a matter of laying back and hoping like hell.

For instance, before I went ahead and made my list I went over the last few drafts and found several teams that are extremely unpredictable. Buffalo is drafting off a completely different list, San Jose too, and NJ makes some interesting choices.

So, even though our top 10's are pretty similar, if Minnesota selects Carl Soderberg and Buffalo picks Adam Berti this board will explode with anticpation over the great names that will fall to us.

THEN, of course, we'll have to wait to see if Lowe trades down, or even more heard on the heart drafts a guy we haven't discussed (maybe we should have a "this year's Niinimaki" thread).

I hope you post it sooner than later, always look forward to it. Besides, after predicting Pouliot correctly last season, I think I speak for everyone when I say we'd like to see who you project the Oil to take.

1. Washington Capitals - Alexander Ovechkin
The centre piece of their collection of top prospects... Watch out for this team in three years.

2. Pittsburgh Penguins - Evgeny Malkin
BPA, any other year he would probally go first

3. Chicago Blackhawks- Cam Barker
Big steady defenceman who can move the puck on the PP, will compliment well with Seabrook

4. Columbus Blue Jackets - Andrew Ladd
They need size up front and would be another Nash like player, with alot more grit.

5. Phoenix Coyotes - Lauri Tukonen
Add some depth on the wing, and a potential scorer

6. New York Rangers - AJ Thelen
American dream, he's also a bigger version of Leetch... and he's physical

7. Florida Panthers - Alexander Radulov
Boom or bust type of player, but has loads of scoring talent, something that Florida lack in their sytem... Will look very good with a big hard working centre like Horton

8. Carolina Hurricanes - Rostislov Olesz
Good second line centre that will complement Staal

9. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Al Montoya
JFG just ain't doing it for the folks at Disney, Montoya is an all american who can sell season tickets, he's going to be a god down there if he pans out

10. Atlanta Thrashers - Andrej Meszaros
Coburn is a solid dman, but they could use a good puck handling dman for the power play, they have scoring up front but needs that PP specialist

11. Los Angeles Kings - Marek Schwarz
Very weak at goaltending... answer solved (?)

12. Minnesota Wild - Alexandre Picard
He could give Gaborik a hand with putting the puck away

13. Buffalo Sabres - Ladislav Smid
They've got some talent upfront with Vanek and Roy, but in the back end, they need a good puck handler, they could also use Smid's size

14. Edmonton Oilers - Drew Stafford
I'm actually not a big fan of this but I think if he's available at this point, Lowe will draft him. Hopefully I'm wrong

15. Nashville Predators - Robbie Schremp
They need a creative forward, a good playmaking centre like Schremp will do wonders for Hartnell, Upshall, and walker

16. New York Islanders - Kyle Chipchura
With Yashin getting older, Chipchura should be a good fit once Yashin takes off

17. St. Louis Blues - Wojtek Wolski
Weight, Tkachuk and Demitra are all getting older, they are willing to take a chance on a player who could potentially develop into an all star

18. Montreal Canadians - Mike Green
They've got alot of depth but what the need is a power play quarter back, why not Green, he also has good defensive skills as well.

19. Calgary Flames - Dave Bolland
They need a solid centre prospect, and Bolland someho slips this far down... I think he's got the good attitude and puckhandling skill Sutter likes

20. Dallas Stars - Jeff Schultz
They need a defenceman who can be possibly be both an offensive defenceman and a defensive defenceman, with Hatcher gone, they could also use Schultz's size

21. Colorado Avalanche - Jakub Sindel
Typical Colorado skill player drafted

22. New Jersey Devils - Boris Valabik
It was obvious without Stevens, the devils lacked that edge on the defensive side, Valabik will bring the big opposing defence back, he's a bit of a project but so was Chara

23. Ottawa Senators - Wes Oneill
They need a skilled PP quarterback, with their current D corp they can wait.. O'neill has too much of an upside to pass up on.. Muckler is a patient man

24. New York Rangers - Enver Lisin
They need a scorer.. even with Balej in the system

25. Edmonton Oilers - Laurie Korpikoski
This is a real tough one, personally I would like to see Schneider or Dubnyk at this spot but with JDD signed Lowe will wan some offense potential

26. Vancouver Canucks - Roman Voloshenko
Good offensive potential and has potential to be a big time scorer

27. Washington Capitals - Kirill Lyamin
Could use a solid steady defenceman in the back end

28. San Jose Sharks - Lukas Kaspar
Needs offensive depth on wing

29. Washington Capitals - Petteri Nokelainen
Good solid centre propsect with some offensive upside, but is also responsible defensively

30. Tampa Bay Lightning - Cory Schneider
Could use a top end goalie prospect

Last year I kind of just tossed Pouliot as the Oilers pick cause he "seemed" like their kind of guy, plus I thought he was BPA so I was hoping. And happened to be right.

This year I think I'm pulling for Meszaros (still pretty early though), even though I think he'll be gone first and EDM probably wouldn't pick him even if he were there.

*edit* though I did just put him to EDM in my 2nd mock, I just can't see who else one would take at that point, assuming the 1st 13 go as I predicted which of course they won't.
