Holy fail batman. Engadget did a massive ninja edit.
Almost all of those phones are running the old QSD8250 same as in the Nexus One with the older Adreno 200 GPU, That's pretty fail...

What is interesting is that the games look pretty damn impressive even on the phones with the older Snapdragon.

So I'm not sure what MS has done that Google couldn't do in terms of getting the most out of the GPU.

Latest rumours say that the January 2011 update will contain C+P, better skydrive integration, turn by turn nav for Bing Maps and multitasking.

The reviews are starting to trickle out

http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/10/...ndows-phone-7/

http://gizmodo.com/5668738/windows-phone-7-review

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/w...hone-7-review/

http://www.winsupersite.com/mobile/wp7.asp (super long)

http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-phone-7-review

http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/w...phone-7-review

http://download.cnet.com/8301-20_4-1...?tag=mncol;txt

Engadget's "review" is pretty laughable. They didn't even really bother to re-review the software from their pre-production review and there are tons of incorrect facts (i.e. no facebook app, not being able to remove your facebook friends from contacts, etc) and some horrible assumptions (namely their entire gripe about third party applications). Then again, what can we expect from a site that listed "not enough treble from headphones" as one of the the three biggest negatives in their review for the Omnia 7 (8/10).

Engadget is cool for news. The rest is a joke. They have a huge bias towards Apple.

So, it's better than 8/10?

They do have some points though.

No universal search, no multitasking are downsides to a lot of people.

Plus it offers not as much customization as Android.

That's not to say Engadget aren't heavy Apple favored bloggers, but they did raise some good points.

The other reviews praise the OS for being a great multimedia OS. I'm guessing if you're looking into WP7 that's what you want.

Seems like if you want a WP7 phone now the Omnia 7/Focus is the one to get, every review i've seen of it is beyond positive. And honestly is that much of a surprise given how good the Galaxy S is? Not to me.

Now I have to decide if i want WP7 or Android.

That's about right. I actually like reading their reviews as well, you just have to go into them knowing that they'll find some way to parlay 1/4 of the review toward praising Apple. When Apple announces new stuff I just avoid the site or use the exclude Apple URL.

As far as the reviews look, they're about as I expected. Microsoft's minimalist approach seems to be biting them in the ass a little bit. No copy / paste, no multitasking... it's a step backward from WM5, for god's sake. The UI is interesting, but the whole grid-less deal isn't necessarily better.

I think the most disappointing thing about it so far is that there's no killer app for it yet - the Office integration isn't all that amazing and the Xbox support is still in infancy rather than coming out with a bang.

I think MS has a DECENT start as long as they churn out meaningful updates every six months, get some killer apps developed, and fix the major issues. Their multitasking scheme is one of them. Having to reload an app from scratch when your phone goes to sleep is horrible, too. Fix it now, MS.

No way I buy one of these over Android or an iPhone - they're both more mature and MS doesn't have any big differentiators that are developed enough.

I'd rather they go too far in the minimalist direction, than go the other way and once again try to cram every possible Windows desktop menu and feature into a 3" screen, ala Windows Mobile. At least it shows some initiative to shake their traditionally terrible design decisions.

It's always easier to add more later on. It's almost impossible to take stuff away.

For a prosumer like yourself, I would think Android would be the easy answer (for now).

The thing with Topolsky is if you ever watch the Engadget show or listen to him talk about non-Apple products on their podcasts, he sounds like he doesn't really knows too much about tech. Which really baffles me on how he was given the reins to Engadget.

It really kills me when I listen to him talk about Android. He knows little to nothing about Android even when he spends a ridiculous amount of time with so many Android phones.

I expect the same with Windows Phone 7.

Here's a comprehensive review of the OS and apps: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3982/w...phone-7-review

Benchmarks wise, they trail their competition, but generally the platform is seen as good enough. I wish they had a killer app though; kind of like the first Halo game on xbox.

He actually likes WebOS as much or more than iOS, but they do go out of their way sometimes to bring up Apple-related news. Apple = hits.

Not that impressed with WM7, other XBL and Zune integration, but I'm curious what MS. still has in store.

I really questioned if this guy was the right spokesperson for WP7. But man I gotta give him MAD props.

He basically had her hot and bothered, WITH HIS VOICE ALONE!

If you aren't going to root it and install custom ROMs, don't bother.

Me and my brother have one. Mine's running FroYo with a modified lag-fix kernel. His isn't.

His is a nightmare. He wants to return it (still within 30 days for him) and get a Windows Phone 7 (mostly for Xbox Live).

Which brings me to this thread.

The three phones on AT&T are a bit disappointing. Are there any other phones that could be had unlocked (or bought and unlocked) to use on AT&T?

Really wish AT&T would get a god damn HTC high-end phone already. Every other ****ing carrier has one.

What exactly is his issue with the Captivate? I've played with one and experienced no lag at all. Then again i've tried the Rogers Captivate not the AT&T one so maybe theres a difference.

Also i'm not sure what you're complaining about as far as WP7 phones. Other than the plasticy feel the Focus was the highest rated WP7 phone by tons of sites.

Samsung made the (brilliant ) decision to use a proprietary file system RFS.

And depending on what you're doing (mostly writing files). Big time.

Here's a good video:

As far as the Focus, maybe I'm just a bit reluctant towards Samsung.... I'll give it another look.

Man, Samsung has really **** the bed with the Galaxy S line. They had a huge opportunity and they squandered it. On top of it all, they have failed on theri big promise of supporting the phones. Still waiting on Froyo.....

I was under the impression that Sprint didn't have a WinMo 7 phone yet/there hasn't been an announced model for their CDMA service yet?
