Bruins fan here,

I hope hjalm gets at least 5 games. The league needs to start setting the example NOW this kind of crap won't be tolerated. Unintentional or not, there was no reason for that kind of cross ice hit, especially this early in the season. There are plenty of other ways to make that play, the way he did it was brain dead and could hinder poms career forever.

They made the rule, now set the example. Guys will think twice about running someone for that perfect hit, get in between the dude and the puck, intercept it, don't fly across the ice and slam the from behind or laterally. Praying for 5 games atleast

It's not about that, it's that he won't even publicly defend his guy, when Q gave a much more spirited defense. No talk about how his guys won't let that happen, no talk about a team protecting itself.

I don't care about what he says publically. I care what he says privately.

No history of this type of play for Hammer. It appeared that Hammer was trying to make a play for the puck also. These are the two factors that will keep this to one game or none. The result was unfortunate as far as the concussion off the glass. After watching this guy play for the past two seasons, I'm sure this was not his intent.

When what he says publicly is exactly in line with what the team does, I care about what he says to reporters.

he has to be suspended. kaleta's hit last year was on a player who had the puck and turned. pominville was not in on the play. both players were directed into the boards in a similar fashion.

I'm hoping for a 2 but would be fine with a 1 gamer.
just saw the hit on youtube and thought the hitter could have done a lot of different things. I know that you dont have a ton of time to make a decision but you need to be able to control yourself somehow.

He could have easily poke checked and the play would have been fine.

And I also think that if we scored on the 5 mintue powerplay we would have won the game. that was a huge momentum shift for Chicago.

It may not have been his intent, but your taught when you first start hitting to never hit guys from behind. Guys know how badly someone can get hurt from a hit like that. That was a stupid, stupid play on Hjalmarsson's part. He should've known better than that. Pominville had his back turned the entire time, I know Hjalmarsson isn't a dirty player, but that was a dirty hit and a stupid one on top of it.

The only thing is, the NHL should make it seem like it doesnt matter if it was your first time or your last, it has to stop.

Even if it is your first time, the NHL needs to make sure that it is your last.

I donít care if itís unintentional. Thatís what we need to get away from in hockey right now, the culture of it where, 'I was trying to make a play, therefore itís not my fault.'

"Itís completely something where I donít know if enough was made of it because Jason is walking out with just stitches. What if Jason has a fractured neck? We donít even know if itís going to have an impact with concussion, so I just think no matter how badly Hjalmarsson feels, no matter if itís unintentional, we have to change the culture of it if weíre ever going to change the situations weíre seeing, where guys are laying on the ice bleeding and missing time with concussions. Itís completely an unnecessary play.

"Iím glad he admitted to it and didnít need to do it, but youíve got to change the culture sometime, and I hope the league wakes up and sets a precedent for the year."

I think if they dont give him a suspension that someone will use Kaleta's and Miller's comments all the way up until the game to attract attention.

Almost 5 hours later and no updates?

Don't they usually tend to announce these things pretty quickly? Or were they too busy over-reacting to the Wis/Avery incident to get to the blind-side, concussion-inducing, illegal hit today?

Who cares?
The NHL has said it's worthy of two games, and that's that.

There's no need for bashing their fan base either, really.

i like the decision. 2 games means that they arent going to let anyone "get by" because it is their first time. It seems that they looked at the hit and not the hitter.

I'm happy that they realize the severity of blindside hits.

Kind of. Historically, my impression is that Chicago had a rabid fan-base until the elder Wirtz drove them into the ground for so many years. After he passed, the team had a resurgence and the fans have come back. I mean, it is an original 6 team, after all.
