Yeah, Wirtz was a terrible owner.
He didn't even allow home games to be broadcast on TV in Chicago.

He was a horrible owner, in my opinion.
Probably one of the worst of all time in professional sports.
I can't blame the fans for leaving, but you can't call them bandwagon fans or anything for liking their team now that he's gone.

Yeah
- He also told fans if you weren't a season ticket holder you didn't matter
- JR trade fiasco (Traded JR a year after telling him he was gonna be a Hawk for life)
- Brett Hull FA fiasco (Hull wanted to be Hawk ,, Willing to take less money but Wirtz didn't want Brett because of his father)
- Dismantling Hawks of 90's
- I could continue on ,,,,,,, Too much #### we had to deal with

I stayed though ,,,, Gotta admit it was hard to watch the Hawks (Road games of course) when our future/top players were Tyler Arnason , Mark Bell , Kyle Calder , Steve McCarthy , Burke Henry and Micheal Leighton

Hammer isn't a dirty player ,,, I expected a suspension (Wanted 1 game) but thought he would get 1-3

So 2 is fine with me

The NHL's commitment to eliminating headshots = two games

Using a rude gesture = two games

Not a dirty player-but a dirty play. Surprised at the number of Hawks fans thinking it was a fair hit.

Haha, that is horrible.
Hitting rock bottom worked out pretty well for you guys though.

Also, OT but what's the deal with the player in your avatar?
I've been interested in him since he signed this summer and I thought he'd make the roster.
He seems like a pretty good player, what do you think his ceiling is?
Obviously you like him since he's in your avatar, but just wondering.

Yes, but using a rude gesture hurts more than heads, it hurts feelings. It hurts feelings.

this is pathetic. half of pominvilles jersey is covered by the blackhawks player. it should have been at least 3 games. i mean 3 games doesn't matter for **** in the nhl.

Actually hitting Rock Bottom got the Blackhawks D Cam Barker (We lost lotto so dropped from #2 to #3 in draft ,,,, Would have had Malkin)

So rock bottom didn't work out well for Hawks ,,,,,, Lotto luck in 07 was the change along with Toews getting passed up by Blues/Pens in 06

Makarov had a strong camp and good preseason but was sent down to Rockford "To get minutes and improve his game"

Truth is he like Morin outplayed Victor Stalberg but management went with Stalberg and sent them to Rockford

Makarov highend potential = Kris Versteeg
Makarov at least = Bottom 6 energy guy with some scoring touch

Him and Morin are probably 1st in line for call up in event of injury to any of our top 6 wingers

Pathetic but typical of the complete void of common sense at the league offices...

Someone dig up the YouTube video of Ruff's post-game "it's a joke" tirade a few years ago about Tucker on Hecht because it fits the bill here.

I was a big fan of those 90's Hawks. A great team to watch and more importantly, to play NHL 9x with. I had a game where I was on the penalty kill for maybe 55 minutes and still won.

The suspension is fair. I guessed it would be 1 game based on past league suspensions and was thinking it should be 3 if they really want to get serious (meaning 5+ for more malicious or grievous hits). 2 is the middle road. I think it was just a bad decision and not intentionally malicious but what seals the deal for me is the fact that he was looking at Pom's numbers the whole way. I believe when a player turns away at the last split-second, it is on him. But here is a situation where Hammer saw Poms back the whole way and apparently misjudged the timing of the puck while also anticipated Pominville turning around. He certainly could and should have backed off in that situation, because he should have came in gunning to make whatever available play there was to be on the puck/carrier rather than locking in on a hit that wasn't legal when the maneuver began. It's all well and good to be looking for a hit that will become legal, but if your anticipation is off you have to be able to back off and he certainly had the time and vision to do so. It waters down to being a very careless play that should be discouraged, encouraging better discipline and decision-making in these dangerous areas of the game.

The first didn't offend Colin Campbell and his neanderthal ways. Heck, "it's just hockey" according to him...

However, the second obviously offended his wife and needed to be severely punished.

garry bettman is a shewed buisnessman. just looking at the guy you can tell that the ONLY context he has is dollars and cents. a player isn't even a human being but a product. and seeing pominville lay out on the ice, his status as a proffessional hockey player was far from relevant.

there are two facts that are undeniable and don't exist in any other sport ..
with the speed of the game being what it is, this player made the decision to hit a player who wasn't in the play and took him out from behind.

how does 2 games even suggest that something like this is bad for the game? these guys aren't exactly spending weeks on monster.com in between games. so what is two games even suggesting? it suggests that the league doesn't have any talent that is worth more then two games. sidney crosbys brain is only worth two games. because pominvile was laid out in a talented fashion worthy of some cubist painter.

bettman has been using his chair like a wcw wrestler to attract fans. look at all the attention this got. the game should have a rule book that is structured so players will be more encouraged to make smart skilled plays.

Bettman has nothing to do with issues or decisions dealing with supplemental discipline - that is Colin Campbell's domain.

Based on how he played in the 70s and 80s, and the goonery that characterized the league in "the good old days", as guys like Campbell dubbed them, he clearly represents the type of player Robie was thinking of when he coined one of his favorite labels a few years ago - that of the "knuckle-dragging neanderthal".

As expected, the thread on the main board about the incident is ridiculous.

You can tell that some of the fans are starving for drama - apparently Saturday is going to be a complete bloodbath. Hide your kids. Hide your wife.

I bet the Hawks board is probably livid that there even was a suspension.
