Sigh.

I mean...road trip...might need him back there...but still.
I mean why try to acquire a d-man when you have forwards like Laich and Sloan to fill in.

Well, if they were going to make a trade for a Dman rather than calling someone up, it would make sense just to use a warm body in practice (hence Laich/Beagle).

Alzner is out for personal reasons, FWIW.
FWIW, if they plan to recall Fahey, they may be waiting until tomorrow's practice given waiver numbers and limiting days counting towards the days on the NHL roster.

The current roster situation:

3 goalies: Assume Varlamov may be placed on IR and Holtby recalled via regular recall; not clear if the Sabourin recall was an emergency goalie recall, but likely given roster counts

14F: Backstrom, Beagle, Chimera, Fehr, Fleischmann, Hendricks, Johansson, King, Knuble, Laich, Ovechkin, Perreault, Semin, Steckel

Assume 2 on IR: Bradley, BGordon

7D: Alzner, Carlson, Erskine, Green, Poti, Schultz, Sloan

Varlamov: Last game dressed was October 21
Poti: Last game dressed was October 21
BGordon: Last game played was October 16
Bradley: Last game played was October 11

Let's just got with an entire roster of forwards...and two goalies.

See what happens.

**** it. Go with one goalie and all forwards. Brooks can be the back up.

Like some other Caps goalies we have seen, Holtby needs bungee cords to keep him in his crease and keep the fans from screaming at him to not overplay the puck

I didn't see the game last night, but from what I heard he tried to score a goal with the 4-2 lead and the goalie pulled.
Glad you brought up the matter of goalies not staying put. One of the pluses you hear about Neuvy's game is that he's so technically sound, but I did see him wander a bit on Saturday night and take a few chances of going behind the goal while the puck was still in our defensive end. That scared the bejebus out of me but then I owed it to Neuvy knowing what he had as d-men in front of him and figured he had totake matters in to his own hands.

Holtby trying to score a goal, gotta love it, he's sounding and acting more like Billy Smith and that ain't bad.

The lack of defensive depth isn't something new.

As for practice today, I'm less concerned today than I will be if it happens tomorrow on the day they leave for a 3 game roadtrip.

Screw it, grab Sheldon Souray and give him Fahey's jersey and Ovie's visor and just tell the opposition that it's Brian Fahey. No one will know the difference.

And we'll counter their speed with our secret weapon, David Steckel. All Steckel needs to do is turn in front of them to get into their "travel" lane, similar to an 18-wheeler getting into the left travel lane, result slows everthing and everyone down.

Steckel in the passing lane clogging up the counter attack

He just has to rehearse his line when they heckle him to pull over! "No, it's a cardigan but thanks for noticing."

Maybe we should stop fighting it and put him on defense.

Yes, it wasn't good news to hear yesterday and hopefully if it happens today as expected, the surgery goes well and he has a successful recovery.

FYI, there are some posts about it in this thread, it's just the practice updates from today have taken over.

Here's the link to the Rocheter's beat writer's blog. There are also some Swedish articles on the topic, which all say similar things, although at least one had a quote or two from Nylander.

I was on capgeek earlier and it has Fahey listed on the roster. They are usually pretty good at tracking player movement. Take that for what its worth.

From what I have seen this week, CapGeek never processed Fahey getting sent back down after his recall last weekend.

If Fahey was up today, he would have been on the ice at practice. I do expect unless a bigger move is made that Fahey could be recalled for tomorrow's practice and travel.

Interesting that they missed that. I hadn't been on the site for a while but I figured that since Holtby was on the roster that they had the most up-to-date info.

You mean Collins can't play one or two games here or there?

He looked tolerable a few seasons ago when he was here. What the heck.

Send Beagle down, play King.

When they kill their defense because someone gets hurt and they have to play 4+Laich, they're going to regret it.

Masisak's updates:

"MJ90 said his hip injury occurred in the 2nd period vs. Boston. Kept playing on adrenaline but got stiff/sore afterwards. Hopes to play Wed."

"Nothing definitive on all of the other injured guys (Poti, B Gordon, RAHJC, Bradley, MJ90) from Boudreau."

Defensemen:

"Bruce Boudreau said he expects #Caps d-man Mike Green to be available for full-time duty Wednesday against Carolina."

"Bruce Boudreau said Karl Alzner traveled to Vancouver b/c his grandfather passed away but he expects him to play Wednesday for the #Caps."

Goaltending:
"Bruce Boudreau said Semyon Varlamov is not going on this road trip for the #Caps."

We're so lucky to have this little break in games and to be able to have played a team on the tiring schedule under which atl just played.
