Why don't teams like Phoenix advertise on their jersey?

Marty Turco and some other players were talking about this a couple years ago. Even had the designs laid out.

There are three ways i know which you can assist a financial troubled franchise:
-If you're Phoenix, then loan Doan & Wolski to another NHL club for a hefty fee. sadly you can't do that in this league.
-Get Bettman to work out that big TV deal hes been talking about for so long
-Or get your sponsorship worked out, and place that fat logo on your jersey

Look at this, Can you see the small Pepsi logo. I think they should do a swap, the Pepsi logo replaces the Rockford logo. Therefore the IceHogs logo now becomes the miniature one up top.

This is pretty much what it should look like. Since hockey sweaters have the brand logo at the back collar, you can therefore have the "A" or the "C" there

I think Columbus and Chicago had some patch on their jersey before too. not sure if it was advertising though

Considering no one watches Phoenix games (less than 7,000 viewers) and only slightly more than that in the arena, do you really think a Company will shell out big enough dollars for that pittance of an advertising boost? Hell no.

why not just change the teams name to the Rockford cola warriors while they are at it?

Because it's incredibly tacky and cheapens the sport?

Having said that, I am sure the NHL would do it in an instant if the NFL, NBA and MLB did. But they can't do it first, for fear of the league being taken even less seriously than it already is.

Just say no to jersey ads. Leave 'em in Europe (and MLS).

I don't see it happening in American sports for quite some time. Just part of our culture.

Because nobody watches them so they would rather save the money on pins and thread.

The reality is that, if a team were to start taking cash for advertising, it wouldn't be Phoenix or Florida or Atlanta. It would be one of the big ones.

Heck, the first ones to put ads on practice jerseys (just a few weeks ago) were Calgary and Chicago.

I really wouldn't mind a small one in the corner that fits the layout of the jersey like in your picture. You can subconsciously make me want to buy your crap all you want if my conscious mind has a good view of the hockey game. The subject makes me uncomfortable though because that brings us closer to that European league stuff, which looks completely awful.

Why would a fan start a thread suggesting advertising on jerseys? Don't you have enough ads to look at during the game?

I prefer no advertising at all, that means along the boards and on the ice surface, it makes the game look so much better and more appealing to the eye.

Who would buy a jersey with a viagra ad, or a condom depot ad plastered on the back. This isn't Nascar or the UFC thankfully, not yet.

Hell no. Take your ugly european jerseys and shove 'em where the sun don't shine. It cheapens the sport, and it makes the team look like crap. I want to root for the Carolina Hurricanes, not Pepsi. Pepsi's fine and all, but the team identity should be the only identity on the jersey.

In Europe they at least trade the tacky billboarding for no commercials. Think the NHL would ever come close to giving that up?

It's more tacky then the current kaleidoscope of ads on the boards and the glass and every other semi-vertical surface in the arena? Not in my book...

They're both corporations whose sole purpose is to convince you to give them your money in exchange for their product.

What's the difference?

Hell, they already disrupt the game flow for the TV commercial breaks.
