Cruz signed... now it's only Na-po-li still slated for arbitration.

I still think there's a good chance they avoid arbitration with Napoli but man, they're pretty far apart.

Evan Grant had a good article about the price of winning and having ownership willing to spend. These next few years are going to be just as crucial as far as producing talent from within and trusting that talent. I'm in a live-in-the-now frame of mind with the Rangers so I'm not too concerned but none of these guys are giving up UFA years in their new contracts. The one perhaps most worrisome is Elvis because of his age and agent. This is where it'll be interesting to see how they move forward with Profar because it's possible he could even be an upgrade over Elvis in a couple of years.

In a lot of ways they really are a model franchise now.

I love Nellie, but with his injury history I'm not sure you even want him past these next 2 years.

I'd be very surprised if Elvis doesn't go to free agency as soon as he can, and that's fine. If the Rangers continue to operate responsibly, rise in popularity/revenues, and have the same ownership there's no reason why they can't compete with anyone financially to re-sign him. I don't see Elvis as expendable for a second because of Profar.

Could even see something like an Olt-Martin-Kinsler outfield and a Beltre-Profar-Elvis-? infield at some point if everyone pans out.

Not if Kinsler plays 2nd like he did last year.

I'm talking 2 or 3 years down the line. Kins is already losing footspeed. He's great there for now, sure.

It's easy to say that about Elvis now because Profar is still just a prospect. Elvis is my favorite Ranger so it's not like I'm advocating his exit just making a more general point about how the environment that allowed for this current winning MLB team owes mostly to an extremely well-stocked farm system and an overall sense of how to develop prospects at both the minor and major league levels.

At some point they're going to have to pick and choose which of "their" guys they want to keep over others because it's just not realistic to develop a lineup of studs and retain them all. I would argue that even if they could retain them all financially that that's beside the point when putting a consistent winner on the field. The move to push Young from shortstop to third in favor of Elvis shouldn't be a special case it should be the norm for a team with a good many special prospects and championship aspirations.

I've just seen too many Boras offseasons to pencil Elvis into the roster beyond his current three year deal. Totally agree with preferring Profar and Elvis up the middle together though.

From what I've read about Olt, it'd be a shame to put him in the outfield. If Moreland can't lock down first, then Olt will almost certainly be converted there. His glove at third is supposed to be fantastic so I'm sure he could manage the change to first.

Rangers avoid arbitration yet again with Napoli's one year $9.4 million deal.

The 3 to the right are probably best confined to history, but it's great to have the whites Kins is wearing back, at least for a little bit this year. Please make it the permanent homes!

Actually, all of them will be fun. If only to have something that says the team name.

Yeah, probably. His future is pretty clearly going to be as a reliever.

Can you imagine if Benn and Darvish were ever in the same room? It would be like dark matter converging with regular matter.

Spring training in the Twitterized world is just too much for me. Why is MLB the one sport where preseason is glorified to the extent that it is? Even NFL fans admit that NFL preseason is a joke.

Edit: I might just be listening to the Hardline too much but Jesus I am so beaten by baseball talk and we are still a month away.

The two time defending AL champs just added a Japanese superstar and people are stoked to see what he has.

I get that, but I'm not even sure I notice an uptick in media coverage this year compared to last year, at least in the media that I keep up with. Last year it was the whole Michael Young and Cliff Lee sagas, and Feliz maybe going to starter and the Napoli trade and the Beltre signing.

And even if Darvish somehow does something like not giving up a run in Spring Training or has like a 6 ERA, is that going to change how anyone perceives him? I just don't need to hear every day how his 23 pitch bullpen session went, and the breakdown of each pitch he threw.
