Well there's that and possibly being evil, but the two go hand in hand.

Well at least the Wild use a decent goal song unlike the Habs.

Okay, I just got an idea, and if anyone is in touch with the Wild, I can give them my address and they can either mail me a million dollars or give me a paper bag full of greasy hundreds. Their call.

The problem: sagging attendance, an uninvolved and uninterested crowd, team that could use more home ice advantage, too many soccer moms and kids in the stands

The solution: a student section

Give college kids 1/2 to 1/4 off tickets with a student ID and put them in the row behind the visiting goalie. Turn down the P.A. system and let them get drunk and just taunt the goalie all night long. Good and rowdy. Eventually, the X will be fun to visit again, the soccer moms will take little Johnny back home, and Nordy can be sacrificed in favor of cheerleaders. All the mojo of the Mariucci goes where it's needed most.

...and that's why I enjoy Mariucci more than anything. There's no goal horn, celebration music (unless you count the Rouser), a band plays 90% of all music and fans go nuts and make up ~PG-13 cheers with or without it.

Indeed. Hoping for lots of free tickets again this year (except they always seem to fall on days my team is playing)

Vertigo's not that bad. I was down on it at first, but they actually got a pretty decent remix that can get a crowd going. It's just the first few seconds (the part that shows up in any highlight reel) that seems a little off; then the song actually picks up quite a bit. Mostly I'm just a fan because at least it's original.

I mean, there are more than thirty different rock songs. Just saying.

who is going to buy the seats when the soccer moms pull their Sienna's on out of the area? plus you'd have to discount the student section (i would imagine) as lower bowl seat prices even on the ends are a bit much per season for the average college student.

fun and doable, but at a $ loss, so no way the Wild will do it.

That sounds great. I saw the Gophs at Williams a few times but have never been to Mariucci. Fan-created ambiance is the best kind.

This one's pretty easy to "sing" along with.

Well, and I love King's X

I like the current goal song, and I like tradition. You shouldn't just go around casually changing goal songs every couple of years. We should stick with this one and maybe have this conversation again after 20 years or so...

Its better than a lot of the other teams out there. I just want one that is OURS and not one that 2000 other teams have. R&R Pt. 2 was played in almost every arena for freaking years.

How about something new that has tradition? Steal the rouser from the U.

That would actually be pretty cool I think. I don't follow US college sports, so I don't know how big of a sacrilege that would be though...

i guess i was a little too jaded to get into the whole "rah rah go [my learning institution]" route. even in highschool.

okay, related to stealing stuff from the U: did we start the whole fan salute after a win thing in the NHL? i see other teams doing it now and i hadn't noticed it until we started.

For me this school pride thing is a bit weird/funny/embarrassing, but at the same time I'm kinda envious because we didn't have anything like that in Finland. School colors, sports teams, fight songs etc. sound fun. On the other hand, if I had been in American school, I probably wouldn't have participated in all that just because I wanted to go against the grain, especially when I was younger.

If you want an original goal song, you'd have to change it every fricking year to do so! The Wild were the first to use this one, and they are the only team with the version of it they use... (the Wild cut what they wanted themselves, the rest of the league uses a cookie cutter version and wish they had ours instead) that's the closest you will get to being original for any length of time.

I say keep it as it is.
