50% OFF NHL Center Ice on DirectTV

Because of the dispute with VERSES DirectTV is offering 50% off the NHL Center Ice.

I read this on a motorcycle site log on too. I just got off the phone with DirectTV and after speaking with three different folks I was given 50% off of the Center Ice package.

When you call you need to mention the dispute between VERES and DirectTV…..

DirectTV 1-800-531-5000

It's on the main board. If you complain enough, I think you could get it for free.

I wouldn't know though, I have Cablevision and I'm just going off what others have said.

I had Center Ice last year w/Cablevision. You get used to watching the Rangers, Devils, and Isles in HD and the lack of HD w/Center Ice is awful - one channel out of 10+. It's really hard to watch those games in standard def AND paying $150+ for the luxury.

thats strange...ive had center ice for a while now, almost all the games are in HD (at least ones that have it as an option)

only MSG Network blacks out their HD games...which frikkin pisses me off.

Same here. Plus, SD doesn't come out well on an HDTV so it seems even worse then it would normally be.

I'm hoping Cablevision offers at least some games in HD this year.

You've got to go through to retentions. The regular CSRs can't do anything. I didn't even threaten to cancel.. just said that I'm a hockey fan, and was wondering what was going to happen with Versus. They asked if I'd heard of the Center Ice package, I said yes, but that it was too expensive. They offered me half off - I said that a friend of mine was offered it for free... they ummed and ahhed a bit (put me on hold for a minute), then said they'd do it, added it to my account and gave me an instant $162.30 rebate.

Call the 1-800 number, put your phone number in, then when the automated voice asks you what you're after, say "retentions", then "cancel".

Center Ice on DirecTV/Dish and the cable networks is utterly different - I had CI on Comcast last year, and got 0 CI channels in HD, and only 10 CI channels period - if they spilled over, they just wouldn't show the games! That was pretty much the main reason I switched to DirecTV - a friend had them, and they'd generally have home and away feeds, and a lot of them (easily 70%+) would be in HD.

I was going to switch to Direct TV but then this whole Versus garbage happened.

Edit: Not to mention that Cablevision are complete idiots about HD and I'd have to watch all the Rangers games in SD.

This was an awesome thread. Thank you guys so much. The army just stationed me in Oklahoma from Brooklyn and I just had DTV installed. I was willing to pay the full price, but after reading this thread, I called up and:

1) Said I'm in the army and to defend the country better, I need to watch as much hockey as possible

2) I told the CSR that 5 of my co-workers got it for free and another got it for 50 percent off

3) He tried to charge me the full price after he said that the VS problem is "almost resolved". I told him that "almost" isnt a guarantee and isnt worth the paper the press release is printed on.

4) I then asked to speak to his manager because I was going to complain to "everybody in the army" that Direct TV is a ripoff.

5) He got his manager and they offered 120 dollars off the 163, credited 10 dollars a month for 12 months.

6) Deal.

So basically I am paying 45 bucks for the full center ice package, minus the 12 games Versus has exclusive rights to. I think I get screwed out of the San Jose game in october but there is always live online streaming.

Great job guys. Thats for the heads up!!!!!!!!!!!

Got mine for free from Direct TV today. This had to be the single greatest "heads up" ever in HFBoards history.

Very True. Main reason is that Cable just doesnt have the bandwith to carry taht many channels, let alone in HD. I have Time Warner out here in Ohio and its that way. when I had dish in PA I got all the home and away feeds for every game. if I didnt live in an apartment complex I would have Dish or Direct.

I spoke with them and they only gave me a $50 credit for NHL center ice. oh well, better than nothing.

One thing I do like about DirectTV is all their NHL games are in high-definition, not the case when I had RCrapN.

I called yesterday cause I heard you could get it free if you complained to them, I was on hold for 45 minutes, and the best they offered me was the 50% off. How did you get it free?? And did you already have it to begin with, cause I don't and was thinking maybe that's why!
